Fair enough. But let me say this, having never heard
Squarepusher. Hype is cheap these days, and this includes the IDM world.
If I spend the money and time to get a copy of this, it damn well better
be the best thing since sunny days. If it's not, I will *never* buy
another Rephlex release again. Period. While you probably won't ever
notice the difference, I'm serious about this.
PR hype is obnoxious, unnecessary and deceitful. The fact that
it's on Rephlex is enough to make 70% of your customers buy it anyway.
I'm going to trust you and assume that this is truly excellent, but if I
get burned, that's *it*. I've bought too many records that are supposed
to change my life that end up as expensive wallpaper.
Advertising rarely has a positive effect on me anymore, but it can
have one hell of a negative effect. Plus, I don't care how good the album
is, drawing parallels with Public Enemy and Brian Eno at the same time
sets my bullshit filters off.
That said, I'll look forward to the album. After all, it does come
with the highest recommendation :)
My two cents,
Jesse
(Unrelated, while I'm drawing flames -- spelling and grammar are
still important, and I'm young enough to know that. It's not a matter of
age, it's a matter of clear communication and pride in what you put forth
to the world.)
