I'm a believer! After finally locating a Squarepusher 12" (Alroy Road Tracks), I have
to say that this boy has some serious talent. He does d&b right with a good dose of
melody and harmony, and he fuckin' wreaks havoc on the drum programming side. So I
guess I could say it's one of the most musical (in a tonal sense) jungle releases I've
heard - at times verging into fusion and jazz, akin to the second side of Plug3. And
the last song on the first side of the EP, called "Sarcacid (part 2)" is a masterpiece
of blazing 808 rhythms and a gorgeous, melancholy progression on a vintage synth patch.
If this release isn't IDM, I don't know what is.
Incidentally, does anyone know of any mail-order shops in the US that have his stuff?
I was lucky to come across this release at Chicago's Gramaphone, but I've had no luck
with other places.
