This is simply a plea for IDM groups to consider the southern part of the continent when planning "tours". That's where they have the hookups. Shows just don't happen -- someone on the ground locally has to contact the people setting up the tour, find venues, sign contracts, advertise, etc. If you think there's an audience in your region, you can do it yourself. I understand the logistics of why a tour becomes easier when you have a higher concentration of cities near one another that can potentially pack out a show. But I think that hitting Atlanta, Gainesville, Tampa, Miami and maybe even Jacksonville is no harder than Chicago, Toronto, Montreal and NYC... And I think you'd find a decent audience there, too. Also, my friendly rant wasn't directed so much at the artists as at the promoters and booking/management. We did Mutek in Montreal and had a great answer. These days, our city is quite well spotted by european artists BUT this is a recent fact. IN the 80's evey band coming to tour the US was stopping in Toronto and only sometimes in Montreal. Things have changed: Why? We did our best to develop a scene, to help local bands and start labels. We are now know in this "milieu" for our hospitality and of the technical quality of the events. It can be eveywhere. BUT Mutek originally came from a merge between our will and the will of labels as Force Inc and others to tour in US. Some other dates were scheduled, but not long before the tours, most of the dates were cancelled by local promoters: not enough pre-sale tickets were sold. So, we did everything alone.
