It was 'tzaddi' that has the (somewhat slower) bassline similar to that of M.A.R.R.S-'pump up the volume'. Decent track, but nothing stands above the original. I also noticed another track on the album that has the same chord progressions as the Giorgio Moroder soundtrack to SCARFACE from 1983. That's what makes this album so unique. We're not so uptight about which track is better, trying to remember the track titles, what is jungle, what is black dog-esque, etc, etc. You have to just "listen" to the album as a whole; just like Eno's MUSIC FOR FILMS/MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS albums. This is quintessential listening music, for those who haven't gotten it yet. Derek btw, you can definitely tell WHO was the mastermind behind some of the slower, more "eastern" tracks on Temple of Transparent Balls, Bytes, and Spanners from this album too! Although Ed has had his "fair share" with the "Balil" pseudonymn!!!!

Just to reiterate a point I made earlier, the tracks on the new album are hardly songs, but just simply explorations of rhythm, all mixed together in a smoldering melting pot of doggish delight. Listening to the tracks individually is a senseless act, and goes unrewarded. While at times the concept works quite well for the album, I found many of the 26 tracks to barely scratch the surface of Ken's unique talent. On the most part I was disappointed, but "Music for Adverts..." is hardly a BAD album. I just find it difficult to understand. ...and most of them show as much development as tracks by some other artists that go on three times as long. I've seen some people on the list complaining that the tracks on this record don't get a chance to develop - I disagree: they don't get a chance to repeat themselves. You could take ten tracks or so at random from this album, and just by repeating sections to pad them out to the standard idm length of six to eight minutes, you'd have an album people'd be raving about, imho. In a few cases this might be true, but there's so much filler on the album. Tracks like "Edgar Allen," "Strange Hill" (sounding very much like a blatant rip off of Hardfloor's "Hardtrance Acperience") "The Big Issue" and a few more just don't go anywhere. And the real gems, like "Euthanasia," "Disench" following by "Minour" just don't have the time to really explore the full potential of their musical form. Granted, the second half of the album is starting to grow on me...but i just don't like finding myself pressing the ">" button on my CD player to advance past to dull monotoneous filler. Maybe those are tracks for the commercial developers to fight over. This is not meant as a flame but I was about to say "you just don't get it, do you?" and by your own admission you don't. :) Anyhow it definitely works better when listened to as one cohesive work than as individual songs but there are tracks or clusters of tracks which do stand out on their own, IMHO. Btw, I suggest you use "IMHO" liberally in your posts like the above as you'll give people who haven't heard it the wrong idea about this album. I for one find it a very rewarding and interesting album... in fact one of the highlights of the year so far. Props to Derek for backing up my "Tzaddi" claim. Regards, John
