I've had traktor less than a week and have already constructed a 30 track megamix CD for my girlfriend which I am most proud of. Some of the transitions are less than perfect, but for someone who's never got to grips with beatmatching vinyl, it's a godsend to actually be able to prepare these things beforehand and concentrate on the blend. I've now made a CD I can put on after getting hectic and chill to, without the desire to skip anything and without any break to the shmoove. My only problem is the machine I'm using. It's hardly a powerhouse and towards the end of the mix it started having issues for some reason. I'm not sure why, but as the mix recording file grew, the audio started breaking up now and again. I think it's the dodgy dual soundcard setup I've got running, it usually goes a bit screwy. Also, getting used to the latency with my soundcard / traktor was a bit of a arse, because once I'd got used to pre-empting the beat at one tempo it becomes tricky to remember it remains the same whatever tempo you're at. Hopefully the next version of traktor will move even further away from a vinyl reality paradigm (for knobs like me who could never use it anyway) and allow more pre-defined cues and loops. mmm. Would be good if it had zero latency on starting sources, too, which perhaps it does on a better configured machine. By the way, George, Let me know if you find out what that Orange advert music is. This sounds like the classic symptom in Windows of having too much file buffering... check out http://www.musicsolutions.com.au/articles/optimisingwindows.html If you haven't been using your computer for hardcore recording, you probably haven't tweaked it for solid recording... some of these suggestions will seem to make normal computer operation a little more sluggish, so it doesn't hurt to use the Windows 'configuration' system so you can boot to different settings when you're doing audio work... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I sometimes use Traktor for live performances when I'm not feeling up to using my looper. It works fairly well for it, though a few little things annoy me about it. The one thing I really wish it had a PFL so I could check the mix in my headphones first since my soundcards are slightly off from each other latency-wise and I often bring the track into the mix and it's a little off. This would also be really helpful in the situation where you don't have any decent monitors (which happens a lot when people think they're booking a live PA that is just going to press play on a sequencer)... I have one live set up that I did with Traktor, but it ran into the problem of no monitors, so the mixing was really sloppy for a while until I got used to just trying to listen to the low mids and mix off that: http://www.atomly.com/music/atomly_-_live_in_nyc_20010804.mp3 -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@my2way.com http://www.atomly.com/ | 877.741.3571 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

A lot of that stuff is pretty damn ridiculous. Make sure you have plenty of RAM and relatively speedy drives. And defrag em first. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
