IDM really needs some sex idols like Matmos. Tom Jenkinson would be great. When he plays his bass he looks like a pigeon, thats so hot. You could so tell he fell in love by his last CD. He started naming tracks after women and totally reinvented himself. All of those pseudo classical tracks, you can tell he's fucking a celloist. I would say Mouse On Mars would be good sex symbols but they are german and thats not really that hot. All of IDM seems way to dorky and people like Dntel and Telefon Tel Aviv keep on trying to make it pop but i really think it just needs to be more sexy. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? I half-agree: I think IDM really needs a goth infusion. Think: Vampires. Vampires are hot, and androgyny is always good for rock music, it gets the juices flowing for both the boys and the girls. We need hot sexy goth IDM. I remember a couple years back there was a short-lived joke website about Autechre & Aphex quitting IDM to do nordic death metal. I wouldn't quite want that, but I think the electronic music scene deathly [hah!] needs an infusion of goth sensibilities. Bola could do, his music's pretty dark lately. It's the logical next step, really. Or maybe I've just been reading too much Anne Rice lately. -Adam P. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

sounds like it. RDJ looked not too bad in his hippie phase, when he wasn't grimacing or tying his face in rubber bands. apparat is a good looking guy. but ellen allien is definitely very pretty and charming. andrea of converter (ok that's rhythmic noise, whatever) is totally hot. the thing is, the nerdiness works. so if people are just nerdy but hot-looking without actually trying to sell their looks i think that would be best. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sheesh get a grip! Even if I were being serious, it's not like the music you love would disappear if some new people were trying to make goth IDM. There's a kind of gothicism in some anime & cyberpunk, maybe a goth IDM could feed off of that. China Mieville occurs to me here... Actually being serious, didn't "electroclash" try to make some quick bucks off making IDM sexy? And wasn't the result just a short-lived '80s new-wave revival? Wouldn't "making IDM sexy" just be turning it into something that's not IDM? Doesn't the music have to be sexy first? I mean, I'm trying to imagine Funckarma or Arovane being played in a strip club and it just ain't working. Some of it can be pretty sensual - I'd say some of the Funcken bros' music is close to goth as it is (that sort of plaintive, sadly nostalgic emotion is steps away from goth; sometimes reminds me of early cure stuff) - but not really sexy. Plaid are kinda sexy, tho. -adam --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Isn't IDM pretentious enough as it is? I think the last thing we should do is encourage these artists to try and become celebrities. One of the main reasons I got interested in this vague and wide ranging genre is the fact that most artists are faceless. It's about the music. I could care less what any of these artists look like. If I see them perform live, I expect them to be hidden behind mountains of equipment. If you care about 'image' I suggest picking up a Jessica Simpson disc. --- Mark Schieldrop Reporter, The South County Independent (401)608-2037 mark@schieldrop.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That is totally true, i love the music for the music. I think Squarepusher is really hot cause he makes me cry without words, thats what got me into IDM. IDM as a genre is getting really rigid though and thats what i meant, it is losing its soul. Mark Schieldrop <mark@schieldrop.net> wrote:> I half-agree: I think IDM really needs a goth infusion. I've listened to electronic music since the early 80s (think Depeche Mode/Art of Noise) before migrating to (post)industrial (late 80s - Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry, nine inch nails, Skinny Puppy) and industrial (SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil, Throbbing Gristle) and on to IDM/ambient (isolationism)/noise in the mid 90s (Aphex Twin, Speedy J, Illusion of Safety, Lustmord, Merzbow, Brighter Death Now, etc.) and I've always loved some sports, football, namely. I played football and some other sports and have always been fairly active, but I also played Dungeons and Dragons and was really into computers and synthesizers from an early age (I lusted after an Ensoniq Mirage in the 80s but had to settle for some cheap Roland piano-emulator while playing Ultima IV on my C64 and later on my Amiga; thankfully now I own a Yamaha VL1, Yamaha FS1R, Crumar DS-2, Kawai K5000S, Korg Oasys and Waldord XTk to assuage the lust I had for the Mirage way back when). It's true that electronic music fans are generally not sport enthusiasts, but it's not always the case. It seems like most "underground" musicians and their fans come from a certain antisocial, antiestablishment mindset, wherein these fans and musicians have bitter memories of being beaten up by jocks in high school, thus (perhaps) eschew sports later in life. Or perhaps I'm generalizing. :) -- Mr. Tangent [the binary police] www.mrtangent.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

John! Is that Crumar analogue? If so, it looks like you've accomplished what I dream of: a synth of each "type" - analogue, subtractive S&S, additive, virtual modelling and FM/FS. Well done, sir! :-D Soon you'll have as many synths as David Kristian, then you'll have Andy Bell's collection to aim for! Gulp!!! :-) The FS1R is a thing of beauty, isn't it? Although I don't use trumpet sounds, the expressiveness and useability of the FS1R's trumpet pisses all over that of the Korg Z1! With it, you can perfectly imitate the synth-trumpet in T-Power & MK-Ultra's "(Horny) Mutant Jazz" ...if you really want to!!! :-D Clive ============================================================ From: John/Slackonomics <slack@slackonomics.com> Date: 2004/12/22 Wed AM 10:30:08 GMT To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Sports and electronic music - Was: "Squarepusher is Hot!" I've listened to electronic music since the early 80s (think Depeche Mode/Art of Noise) before migrating to (post)industrial (late 80s - Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry, nine inch nails, Skinny Puppy) and industrial (SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil, Throbbing Gristle) and on to IDM/ambient (isolationism)/noise in the mid 90s (Aphex Twin, Speedy J, Illusion of Safety, Lustmord, Merzbow, Brighter Death Now, etc.) and I've always loved some sports, football, namely. :) -- Mr. Tangent [the binary police] www.mrtangent.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org ============================================================ ----------------------------------------- Email provided by http://www.ntlhome.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

nice post! interesting perspectives...I have noticed that a lot of people who like synth music are anti-social, etc..I'm a little on the anti-social side myself, but have always loved sports(just don't have the typical sports mentality that a lot of guys do) and played sports since the age of 7 years old. I also really enjoy reading about space and astronomy, maybe this is also a reason why I like spacey synth types of music. I like the fact that I'm "different" than most and enjoy unusual music. Sometimes people hear some of my stuff(who know NOTHING about synth based music) and are really surprised how good it sounds. I got into synth music from Electro funk(Hashim, Twilight 22, freestyle, Jonzun crew, Newcleus, etc) back in the mid 80s, from there I started exploring techno, etc, etc..... ----- Original Message ----- From: "John/Slackonomics" <slack@slackonomics.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, December 22, 2004 2:30 AM Subject: [idm] Sports and electronic music - Was: "Squarepusher is Hot!" Just because someone doesn't like sports doesn't make them anti-social.... and i'm sure that some will agree that it's not nerds and geeks only that get into electronic music. IDM type stuff has become more visible in the mainstream; while living in Europe i recall hearing The Orb in a MacDonalds franchise....... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think the more obvious reason is that most of you guys are stuck in cities with CRAPPY TEAMS! HAHA! i was in chess club in high school, yet damon is my co-pilot i don't think i need to mention the yankees, (it would be inappropriate of me to take a jab at the on-again off-again romance between sheffeild and posada) i almost strapped a bomb to my chest when i found out there would be no hockey this year Paul Pierce rules, the C's could be decent if they pulled their game together a little more, also on a related note... screw the lakers... everybody was happy to see them knocked off their high-horse, (Wallace is the friggin man), and i look forward to watching them lose to the heat on christmas, if I don't pass out drunk first ricky williams is my new hero after watching 60 mins. the other day in closing... I usually put down the laptop for a few minutes to watch the pats, Bruschi is a f***ing monster p.s. Pedro is a little bitch
