It's a toss-up between 33 Degrees and Waterloo. What you can't find at 33 Degrees you can often find at Waterloo and vice versa--but visitors should hit both since they are locally-owned. 33 Degrees is arguably more user-friendly than Waterloo though...easier to find what you're after. Whatever happened to Bill's in Dallas? Used to find some incredible (and incredibly overpriced) rarities there...the old Factory cloth cassette boxsets, for one...can you still find cool stuff like that there? Or has Bill's gone downhill? Bill is a fucking crook and his selection is for shit these days. I refuse to support that a-hole. Just my opinion of course. But yes, back in the day it was a treasure-trove of rare finds (if you didn't mind paying through the teeth), bit these days it just plain sucks. -- ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^- omz beautamous loaf recordings http://www.hotweird.com/loaf/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it's true that most of waterloo's CDs are arranged alphebetically, without regard to genre, making it time-consuming to browse for CDs from a certain style. however, i consider this a feature. i suspect that many of waterloo's customers are interested in a wide range of styles, and the arragement encourages those customers to find and try something new. an important part of this approach is that, last i knew, waterloo allows one to listen to anything (vinyl or CD) before buying. this is about as user (customer?) friendly as it gets. what about 33 degrees? i've been there, but they didn't have anything i was in the mood to hear. it seemed like their selection was mostly experimental/prog/noise. in any case, last time i was at waterloo (almost a year ago), the VINYL electronic music was grouped together. phase np: dabrye - selections: one/three --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

They have a stock of at least 1000 IDM/electronic cd's on the wall down from the noise/experimental stuff. And also racks of vinyl. You must have missed it :) -- ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^- omz beautamous loaf recordings http://www.hotweird.com/loaf/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I haven't been there in years due to the general shiftiness. Another fun one is that there used to be a http://www.wehatebills.com - check it out now, won't you? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's hardly 1000, but it's pretty big anyway :) And sorry to have neglected that you can listen to just about anything at *both* stores. Including vinyl. To Phase's email, you're spot-on about the alpha as being conducive to long bouts of fun sorting (and I do that quite often there), but if you're in the mood for something from a particular genre/style/period, it can often be overwhelming to see that many CDs in alpha order unless you already know all the artists/groups that belong to that genre. At 33 Degrees, it's a little easier to navigate by genre. But Waterloo's vinyl and CD comps are grouped loosely by style, so that's a nice one. I'm an advocate for both...
