I like them both, however i think the size of a vinyl 10/12" makes it a format easier to manipulate...also there are alot of releases especially dance/Idm that are vinyl only. I think CDs work well for ambient and tracks with clear pecise sounds, but i find it difficult to listen to any analogue (acid) tracks on Cds, digital doesn't really work well for the analogue synth pitches (IMO). The one thing that i hate about vinyl though, is when you've just bought a new record, it's really cool, and you get bad surface noise, and then it jumps....and then the sound quality decreases quickly. Nick.

Also what is released on a vinyl has probably passed the digitalism of a DAT so the "analogue synth pitches" are in that case badly reproduced there too. ********************* * Johan Jaatinen * * aniag@info.liu.se * *********************

Would all of you keep in mind that the analogue versus digital thing is like the Good Times virus. People just can't leave it alone. But please try. It's more a forum for people to propagate misinformation and air their petty prejudices, than any kind of substantive discussion with a point in mind. Buy your copy of Threads and shut your festering gob about CD Vs Vinyl. Vinyl is more convenient for DJ'ing, CD's are easier to listen to in other settings. Any real difference ins sound quality is going to be swamped in the other comprimises in sound reproduction that it's a moot discussion. do you really think that after you run a signal through a DJ mixer with the outputs pegged and the EQ at extreme settings, into a compressor, through a 5 Kwatt amplifier, into a crossover connected to a big bass binn and a 1/2 blown tweeter, that you're going to hear a difference? The only difference you're going to hear is when the record's scratched and you get one of those nice 115 dB POP sounds in your ear. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new beauracracy -- Franz Kafka Kent Williams kent@inav.net (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

Which can cross over. I can tote a hell of a lot more music around, without as much risk of damage with CDs than I can with vinyl. There are also the times when you do a commando party in the middle of a desert. Then the wind picks up and the needles won't stay on the tables, so all the vinyl DJs throw their hands up in the air. Take some shiny PWOG 5", put it down, and watch the dust fly. I like DJing CDs. I'm a computer geek. This argument however, is as old as the "cylinder vs. platter" debate from the early 20's scene.

All the more reason for us to stop talking about it.
