i agree - the $17 CD should cease to exist i vote for continuing to rip as well as buying vinyl too bad picture discs and colored vinyl apparently have inferior sound; i'd take one of these over black any day as long as the quality is equivalent

I buy CDs all the time - I will *not* buy vinyl unless it's the only way I can get the music (ie, if I can't find it on MP3, or if I'm collecting...). CD is more convenient in every way that matters to me. But I don't want to get into the CD vs vinyl argument - I'm responding to the "$17 CD" statement - who buys $17 CDs? most CDs I buy these days are 12-15, something like that. Shipping jacks up the price a bit, as I always mail order, but... Planet Mu CDs are that expensive, but others usually aren't. And thanks to MP3s, I buy far fewer CDs I don't like, and far more that I do. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Goldsworth" <keving173@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, February 09, 2002 6:58 PM Subject: Re: [idm] CD expense

You aren't the only one. When I dumped my 70-80 crates on vinyl in the mid-late 80s, it was like an emotional divorce : a big decision from which it's awful hard to turn back. I really didn't plan on amassing thousands of CDs...it just kinda happened. I always try to get whatever I want on CD, but much of what I really "need" can only be obtained on vinyl - so, as a result I have about 3-400 pieces of it around again. My sound card drivers keep dropping out arbitrarily, so PC listening isn't an option for me. Call me crazy and give me a lecture on purity, but I also prefer CD for a number of reasons - among them is the fact that they are easier to store, play, access and they don't often warp or display audible evidence of scratches. Mail order and web-shopping *is* the way to go for good prices AND selection as well. Job security for the postal workers. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
