Cheers. There hasn't been much talk about it lately, but I've just got to tell you all who have yet to buy the new sqrpshr album that it's killer! The best this year and unless Jega or The Black Dog puts out a fullength I believe it is going to remain in that position. More funky, which I like, more jazzy, which I like, more e-bass, which I like. Totally and utterly awesome. When I hear Jenkinson play the bass shivers are sent down my spine. His music is incredible and fucking overwhelming. Hard Normal Daddy is, at parts, very alike to the recent music of Aphex Twin but "Richard D James" album compared to "Hard Normal Daddy" is nothing. Squarepusher _IS_ feeling, "Richard D James" is masturbating with those really fast tomes which we in Sweden call "sextiofjärdedelar". I really cannot see why there still are ordinary drum n bass with this stuff around. Squarepusher _IS_ feeling, I guess what I like about the new Pusher album is that, more so than the first one, the drum programming, although samples, sounds a lot like a real drummer playing madly at 160BPM. The breaks and the jazz type music really go together very well, as if I was listening to some fusion band playing on speed. You can't hardly even call this d&b really IMHO. It's just called Squarepusher. It sure sounds like a breakbeat to me. I've listened to much of the new album and thought it was really good stuff but its not that far removed from the realm of drum and bass being produced. Check out the Original Playboys (12" on R&S or their mix of U.F.O) for some very organic jazzy sound stuff from a year or so back. Its unclear why people seem to be treating D'n'B like they did trip hop (not specifically Nate). Its like the black sheep we all love in secret but publicly cast doubt on. Do we need to call it something else too? Why would people say that the breakbeat is stylistically limited?
