I thought it sounded like a tribute to the minimal, jittery rhythms that
are dominating R&B (courtesy Tim, natch). It comes across more like a
one-off or piss-take than anything else (much like the latter day
MASK/Shapes stuff- do you think that musicians purposefully withhold their
best, most representative material for non-releases like this?). This
isn't a criticism of the record, although it will probably be misquoted as
such.
I'm kind of glad this kind of thing exists, both as a spanner thrown into
the record geek works and as a way for flotsam to emerge. Either way, its
value derives from an expression of the energy spent unpuzzling the enigma
of auteurdom than anything else. To wit, if you're driven by the need to
hold the latest, mysterious, possibly Skam-related item in your hands to
make you feel all special, here's your ticket for the spring/summer 2001
season.

By the way, this item is available to actual flesh & blood humans across
the world through Forced Exposure. Fight the cult of mystification!
