Hi, I'm looking for names of groups who play instruments over a substantial set of electronic sounds. I'm currently working on a project involving just this (with guitar and bass), and would like to hear what others are doing (I've only heard a couple - the more obvious of course). Thanks for the links, I checked them out - i am spoonbender sounds interesting although I haven't heard the audio yet. One thing is, though, that these seem to be all bands that use electronic sounds as opposed to, well the opposite - an electronic foundation with effected instruments and other electronic sounds layered on top. In the second case (which is what I am looking for) the instruments act as voices, sometimes primary sometimes not, and they don't have to be present in all sections. I think there can also be a difference in approach (form, etc) but not necessarily. Maybe I'm making a mistake with this distinction, afterall I haven't heard this stuff yet! I just got the feeling from info/photos on the websites that it's mostly band first and electronic to fill/colour. What do you think? Does anyone know of any groups who fit here? Andrew

I'd say the Spaceheads fit your bill. Lots of swirly atmosphereics and beats with great horns overlaid, if I remeber correctly. Only heard it once though, check http://www.insound.com/tour/, it's one of the Tour support, "eps". Not sure how 11 tracks and 50 minutes is an ep though, but it's only $6.50. It's limited too, which reminds me that I need to pick up a copy for myself. Pluramon seems a bit rocky for you definition, but it's on Mille Plateaux, if that gives an indication of quality. Haven't heard the new remix cd though, comments anyone? Maybe Bowery Electric, Labradford, Kranky school of sound? Seefeel maybe, I've been listening to Quique a lot lately.
