MY SWEET HEAVEN !!!! Okay, that's enlightening ;-) I remember seeing Genesis P Orridge in the Modutions movie and then again in a *really* strange programme I sometimes catch by chance on TV but never know when the next installment is due. It's called Disinformation and it had an insert about a pretty 'in your face' performance artist - she had her labial lips sewn shut, etc etc (you get the general drift...) and Genesis P Orridge was somehow connected to her events or something... can't remember all the details, but he certainly is one interesting and unusual human being! The guy we met on the L train gave us his card and not only did he match photographic evidence but the card was for a person named "Genesis P Orridge". I believe that he has been banned from the UK because of obsenity or something like that. I've emailed him out of curiosity but have never received a response. I don't about his drug usage but he gets props for keeping it real, he's a cross dressing s/m loving ex-member of a legendary band and he ain't hiding it. While i'm not much of a fan of his music, i was 1/2 the opening act for him last time he was in toronto with Thee Majesty and all I can say is he's a nice person. but not the type of person you expect to meet. ever. He's changed his appearance many times over the years. a friend of mine even stayed at his place in NYC, presumably in williamsburg as was previously mentioned. lalala la, what does this have to do with idm? i don't know, but Cristian Vogel's newish Dungeonmaster thing on Tresor is amazing....

OK: That *is* GPO. S/he began this transformation about 3-4 years ago, IIRC. This Domination escort biz bit ~is~ news to me, though. While on tour, in Tibet, his home in London was raided by Scotland Yard: they'd received information that he and the topy-cats were involved in satanic-ritualistic-abuse of underagers. Guess they'd seen some vids. Yeah: real 'cutting'-edge SRA. The bobbies confiscated his library, and declared he and Paula/Alaura 'wanted fugitives'. The two decided to not to return to the UK, given the conditions there. Why's move. They landed in Cali. Alaura split with Gen there and began topy-catting his catalog of riffs: visual-projections coupled with boring music and droll spoken-word mumbley-jumbo: ~pathetic~. Gen seemed a bit depressed by the way things had transperspired since leaving the UK on the tour from which he never returned. Some short time after Paula ditzed, er, ditched him, Gen's place burnt down: he barely escaped alive, and suffered injuries getting out of the fire. He soon-there-after ended up at Tim Leary's place, and was among the groovy-ghoulies who hung with Leery, er, Leary, awaiting the final 'trip'. Lots of nice, free dope there. Quite the psycho-delicatessen, evidently. After Leary dearly departed, GPO drifted: he performed with Pigface, and did some other shows with Bill Rieflin, IIRC. Sometime in late 99 or 2000, he put together a deal called Thee Majesty. Seemed like a swan song, in retrospect. He was ~dragging~ his tail by that time. Stuck in the middle, with ew: http://www.fopi.net/images/buttons/majesty.jpg Howl: thee might 'T' have fall in. =seek= np - October Love Song - Chris and Cosey! ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think one of the most interesting things about GP-O and the whole psychic tv thing is how the memes infiltrated mainstream culture - from lots of '23' references sneaking into mainstream cinema, to a lot of the commonly held ideas about dance culture. PTV and the temple of psychic youth (the countercultural youth tribe psychic tv started in the early 80's) seemed to have a lot to do with popularising and innovating the early acid house scene, as mentioned in Modulations. Disinformation has a very cool site at www.disinfo.com which has details on all the artists they screen, etc. -----Original Message----- From: Irene McC [mailto:substar@iafrica.com] MY SWEET HEAVEN !!!! Count me in as to also wondering what this guy has been up to --- I have met him a few times, and he's a charming, albiet unusual fellow :) One of the last times I saw him, he was performing at a place called 'Bar' in the meat packing district in NYC, at a night called "Jackie 60", a wonderful mix of performance art, poerty and burlesque. He has a ton of releases which can be tracked down, ande was a major influence on the Acid House movement .... his wife did that 'Je l'teme' (god know I meessed that up, but I blew out my left knee dancing to Marco Carolla in Philly last night and am in pain, so please forgive me) Linda ------------ Linda Leigh/L3 www.technotica.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes ::: can you please further explain the '23' connection? Isn't it from Robert Anton Wilson and "The Illuminatus! Trilogy" [also responsible for the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu and a lot of the KLF mythology]. The 23 thing is about 23 being the most commonly occurring number and some maths and numerology hocus pocus [ like http://afgen.com/num23.html ]... Of course this can be countered by the idea that once you look for a pattern your start seeing it. Kind of like Sir Francis Galton and his attempt at being paranoid... It wasn't Gen's place. The fire occurred at a studio owned by producer Rick Rubins. At the time, Gen was visiting the studio - he had been invited there by Love & Rockets, who were recording a new album. Gen was awarded 2 million dollars for his injuries. Here is a short article I found: GENESIS P. ORRIDGE BURNS RICK RUBIN You may remember that Love & Rockets narrowly escaped from a fire three years ago while recording an album at one of producer Rick Rubin's homes in California. Also present the day of the fire was Genesis P. Orridge, the founder and brain trust behind arty band Pyschic T.V.. P. Orridge was injured quite badly when he was forced to jump from a second storey window. He suffered a broken wrist, ribs and a shattered elbow in the fall, and was recently awarded $2 million U.S. in damages that presumably Rubin's insurance company will have to pay. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. The Robert Anton Wilson connection is from Discordianism, which he wrote about but did not invent. Discordians worship Eris, the goddess of discord. Discordians believe in the Law of Fives, which is that anything (with enough ingenuity) can be related to the number 5, or the number 23 (2+3=5). The saying goes that (with enough ingenuity :-) anything can be related to the number 5 (or 23). Here is a page about Discordianism, with a number of useful and interesting links: http://www.disinfo.com/pages/dossier/id342/pg1.html I myself am a Discordian Pope (and as such I should be properly addressed as "your excellency") - anybody can be a Discordian Pope. (The Black Dog have been known to go under the name "Discordian Popes" - another IDM link). William Burroughs described something called the "23 enigma". Possibly this is where the Discordians got it from, and this is the origin of it's use by Genesis P. Orridge and Psychic TV. I found a page here which describes it: http://www.disinfo.com/pages/dossier/id327/pg1/ Ross :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Muffin" <muffin@signmytits.com> To: "IDM" <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, March 07, 2003 10:50 AM Subject: Re: [idm] Genesis P Orridge, where is he now?

Just to put the story straight on some of the misinfo flying around here, GPO did not have any influence on the acid house scene. He very publicly tried to jump the bandwagon a bit too late in the day and was extremely unsuccessful. He became seen as a charlatan and laughing stock as he went around giving interviews claiming to have single-handedly invented the scene. He released an atrocious fake 'acid house compilation' with made up bands, name of it escapes me but it had a union jack on the cover. Also I believe he is completely anti-drug so the jacking up in an alleyway fears are likely to be groundless. Not being any sort of expert on acid house, didn't it come around about '85-86? PTV were still singing pop songs about dead Stones at that point.

October 1990 CMJ conference, Hotel Vista, WTC NYC: -Panel discussion w/ KRS-1 (probly something political, cant quite remember) -GPO, short grey hair and wearing a grey Priest's shirt/outfit, stands up from the audience during the middle of the panel discussion, and asks, "What I want to know is, how many of you have done acid?" man it was so weird. His remark was completely out of context. Acid house was on it's way down and the chinstrokers in the room kinda put their hands over their eyes, like "oh boy, please don't do this to yourself, buddy" such a sad first in-the-flesh GPO intro for me! BULLSHIT on that! Time to seperate 'Signal' from 'Noiseloop'. Despite what else I may have offered in this thread, I *must* stand up for Gen here: PTV *more* than influenced the Acid House scene: they made *the* record that kicked off the scene: "To All The Young People", with the Superman label (which pissed off DC comics). Psychic TV were *very* much responsible for the start of Acid House in the UK *and* in the US. Gen was in the States on a tour, in Chicago, and asked a clerk in a shop there for the 'oddest' records that they'd in the shop. He was given 'Acid Tracks' by Marshall Jefferson and DJ Pierre (recording as Phuture). Upon return to England, he grafted the house beats with his 'hyperdelic' sound (the hyperdelic stuff is best displayed on Godstar, on which 'J'taime', mentioned on list in this discussion earlier, is the B-side: btw, the song 'J'taime' sucks big-time, bad-time, IMO. The record 'Turn On: to all the Young People' is seminal and should not be missed: the same can be said for 'Jack The Tab' and 'Tekno Acid Beat': get 'em if you ain't got 'em already.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Jack The Tab', the record referred to above, was made by folks ~not ~in PTV, along with Gen and PTVers: Richard Norris (Grid, Soft Cell) had more to with the production of that record than did Gen. And Evil Eddie Richards was in on it, too, IIRC. It's a *fucking* great record!!! As is 'Tekno Acid Beat': *great* shit, man. Also I

just fyi more than anything, i lifted the title "23:thingsfallapart" from an issue of The Invisibles by Grant Morrison. if you're not familiar with The Invisibles - it was a truly amazing comic series written by the man above throughout the 90s which managed to draw from all of the stuff mentioned below without degenerating in to the typical x-files/pomo nonsense that typified 90's popular culture. totally recommended - it's amazing. the whole order/chaos thing fitted in quite nicely with where i'm coming from musically, hence the nod to Mr Morrison. cheers, andy.digitonal>: ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ross Balmer" <ross@i2dm.co.uk> To: <idm@hyperreal.org>; <substar@iafrica.com> Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2003 12:21 AM Subject: Re: [idm] Genesis P Orridge, where is he now?
