If you use math you make Math Rock, if you use delay, you make Psychedelic trance, if you use algorithms, you make academic music. If you use indifference, you make indifferent music. -l on 1/18/01 6:32 PM, james trunkey at semj_idm@hotmail.com wrote:

there's no "one way" to make idm. some people make it using text-based sequencers/fx, others modify waves and plop them together graphically using wave editors. others actually play instruments (gasp!). i'd recommend joining the idm-making list at egroups, where this sort of discussion is much more prevalent, and you won't get harped on for talking about music. cheers, /derek At 06:32 PM 1/18/2001 -0800, you wrote: making(idm) i know the sound of idm and other experimental music but how do you actually make it ...like with algorithms and delay effects right? is it all about math?/i just listen to rdj, autechre, and u-ziq and have currently joined this list to be cultured by you guys thanks alot ---_;' \' ]'[ '|---semj ( http://www.members.geocities.com/semj_01/ ) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org - - - - - Alice could not help her lips curing up into a smile as she began: "Do you know, I always thought Unicorns were fabulous monsters, too! in the words of plone, "press a key". listen hard(ish). do you like the noise you have made? this is a difficult moment and one which we can't help you with very much. it may help you to make a list of good noises and bad noises before you start, which you can compare your new noise with. if you don't like your new noise we recommend you call it a day and go and have a nice cup of tea, try again tomorrow. if however you do like your new noise press some more keys (if you have a drum machine running at this stage it's sometimes a nice idea to press the keys in time with the rhythm). keep pressing keys until you hit upon an order of key presses which appeals to you - congratulations! you have just written a tune! (or, more likely, copied someone else's tune). repeat this a few times until you can be sure you can remember the correct order of key presses."
