I've recently acquired two albums by Shantel : Higher than the Funk & Auto Jumps and Remixes. This *is* a woman, right?? I see all the tracks are by Andrea Palladio - but in Italian Andrea appears also to be a boys' name, which is rather confusing. Also, I have an album review in a magazine, in which it says "Shantel's been exploring down tempo rhythms since 91 and he's also the master mind behind the famed Lissania Essay club where artists like Kruder & Dorfmeister and Whirlpool played some of their first gigs" ... Any further info available? What is Shantel up to these days? I *

I believe this is a woman. I've got the album "Glub Guerilla" (Shadow Records, 1997), it has a woman's face on the cover. The booklet says "produced and mixed by Shantel", but one of the tracks has vocals by Andrea Palladio and it is a female voice. So if Shantel is Andrea Palladio, Shantel is a woman :) Nick.

Sorry for the delay... Jeff is correct. Shantel is indeed Frankfurt-born Stefan Hantel. On 'Higher than the Funk' Shantel enlists the help of vocalists Liane Sommers and Andrea Palladio as well as co-production assistance on a few tracks by Richard Dorfmeister. I don't know about this specific person, but I am quite sure it's a man. Andrea is in fact a male name in italian. I know because I am a man and my name is Andrea... So I guess it's a man., because he has an italian family name (and a prestigious one at that!). Didn't know Shantel was italian, that is very interesting (for me at least).
