Hey folks. Was really happy to get a promo copy of the US release for Drum n' Bass For Papa last night. It's due out on Sept 9 (of course this may change but then again they've waited long enough. We all know the Ninjas would've had it out back in March, right?) Can't comment on the art 'cause all I've got is a coverless double cd case w/white tray case. -bleah- Anyways, it's missing a track (can't remember which one right now) and has a remix for cut (Cut '97 remix). But the best news is they've included Plug 1,2, &3! (Although I think there's still a missing mix of Cheesy.) Here's the track listing: Disc 1: 1) Me and Mr. Jones 2) Drum 'n Bass for Papa 3) Cut 97 remix 4) Feelings 5) I Freak Techniques 6) Delicious 7) DBC 8) Maker of All 9) A Subtle Blend Disc 2: 1) 6.07 2) 7.04 (This should be 7.44) 3) 7.10 4) 3.41 5) Military Jazz 6) Pitch Bender 7) Cheesy (Gigolo mix) 8) Cheesy (Amex mix) 9) Brave Lick (Let's Ge Down) 10) Tuf Rinse 11) Versatile I have to wonder why Blue Planet (or whoever is the rec. co. in the UK) didn't slam all 3 Plug Eps into their second disc instead of just Plug 3. Greed? Well, US IDMer's win out big time on this one. laterz, Howie

Er... It _is_ on Nothing Records. I suppose I should have said it more clearly. So what I _really_ meant to say is: "It's due out on Sept.9 on Nothing Records. Of course they can push this back as it's already taken them months and months to do this. We all know if the Ninjas retained rights to D n' B for Papa it would've come out in March. And they'd prob. have included that missing Cheesy mix too..." Someone also said that the reason Plugs 1+2 weren't on the new Blue Planet reissue is that they were previously rereleased as a double pack. That may be true but has anyone had any luck finding them lately? Reissued they may be but easy to find they are not. Hence, Nothing Records sort of makes up for being a 'big nasty major label' by reissuing the hard to find Plug 1,2 & 3 along with D n' B for Papa.

Actually, 2+3 just arrived in the mail yesterday, when I heard about the re-issue... had one for a while... sort of irking as I was under the impression that there was no longer a US release and went and bought the Blue Planet... the US release was supposed to have ALOT more on it (as it does) and thats why I had planned on holding out... oh well... I like my records better anyways =) Chris brap@sonic.net HeathenNet Projects: http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ HeathenNet: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/9923/ The WhiteZone-L:http://www.sonic.net/~brap/whitezone.html C.Gosselin, PO Box 8264, Santa Rosa, CA 95407

"Retained"? What makes you think NinjaTune US ever *had* the rights to the record? They were in negotiations for the rights and Nothing came along with a better offer. The NinjaTune rep on the list seems to have overcome his bitterness at being outbid by Reznor's label, why can't the general list membership get over it? I was bitching over the fact that major labels take sooooo damn long to get releases out. The thing that I find really ironic is that majors are usually quite conscious of what they're releasing relative to what the other labels are releasing at the same time and the Plug album is hot on the heels of Luke's Mo Wax album (er... this is our in the US, right?) which is on London/FFRR in the US. Then again most people probably aren't going to realize that they're one and the same. Personally, I would like to see the Drum n' Bass For Papa sell tons. Of course, it won't sell as much as Marylin Manson but the more Plug albums that get sold then the better it is for Luke. 'Nuff said. (Well, it'd also give a message to the majors that weird music without vocals can sell.) Howie

Indies are no better. Remember the Wax Trax releases of 'Virtual State,' 'Artificial Intelligence II,' and 'Azimuth'? How about the Waveform releases of the HIA albums? Each of those was at least a year after the UK release. (Although I guess Wax Trax isn't an indie, strictly speaking). Hell, how about the recent US release of Reload's 'A Collection of Short Stories'? What's that, four years after the UK release?

Last I heard it wasn't due out in the US until 15 Sept, although I heard that a loooong time ago and I haven't been record shopping recently so for all I know it's out now. One factor you're ignoring is that often the originating label (in this case, the UK labels) will dictate when their licensee can do a domestic release. Delays have sometimes been attributed to originating labels not wanting to undercut their export sales... It's missing two: "Life of the Mind" (one of my favorites) and "Subtle (In Your Face)." I assume "A Subtle Blend" is a remix of the latter.

They are, and it's the same one that was missing from the UK "Plug 1+2" reissue.

Because the "Plug 1+2" reissue mentioned above contained all the tracks that aren't on the UK bonus disc (except "6.07" which is on 'Further Self Evident Truths 2'). Ha! Life of the Mind! The fiercest track on the LP; and it's gone! Prolly a sample clearing problem, but what a shame. I could see Ninnies eating that one up. I also question the inclusion of the Subtle RMX instead of the original track. Thought the remix was a little weak compared to the original. Plus, that makes three Amen tracks out of nine on the first disc. Damn. Beggars can't be choosers. g. np: blech action figures. i got these four cut outs of sissy and the gang packaged with my warpmart order i received today. i've been fascinated with placing them on the turntable and watching them spin around on the platter. great fun.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks as though "Crib Funk" from Plug 3 is also missing, and this _is_ on the Blue Planet 2CD reissue. I've got the Blue Planet version and the 2nd CD has the following running order: cut (97 plug remix) brave lick versatile tuf rinse crib funk ... all of 39.57 minutes worth of playing time [sob] Brave lick does NOT have "lets go down" in brackets - as you write above (maybe that's taken for granted :-) ) Does that mean it's a different mix? agreed. I felt much better weeks after when I received the masters for Amon Tobin's 'Bricolage' record. I'm still following this with lots of interest however. Imports have already taken a sizable chunk of Nothings potential sales. I would hope they price the double as a single so as not to skank anyone who only needs it for the extra disc. I don't know what they expect to achieve. I know what our offer was and what our break even for the project was (approximatly 6000 copies), if you compare our overhead with Nothing coupled with the fact they paid a hell of a lot more than we were going to I can't imagine what they need to sell on it. Let's face it, it's a fucking brilliant album but it hardly has serious crossover appeal. Oh well whatever. At least it's finally coming out. Ninja Tune : Strictly Independent (and some say stupidly so) after all these years. Ninjas (where Tate and LaBianca no play with Shabba Ranka)
