I thought this was common knowledge, but, directly or indirectly, Pink Floyd influenced everybody! Interstellar Overdrive, released in '66 or '67 (it's on their first album "Piper At the Gates of Dawn", as well as some other places), had lots of ambient elements (especially after the first 2 minutes of guitar-song intro). All the earlier innovative stuff like Sergeant Pepper, T. Dream, etc. were directly influenced by Pink Floyd. If you took your time machine and went back and prevented Pink Floyd from getting together (maybe changing their art school application replies to "denied" :-) ), then when you came to '94, the only albums you would recognize would be Garth Brooks! PS Unfortunately, Mobile Fidelity had to cancel their version of "Ummagumma" because the master tapes have deteriorated. :-( - respect to all, Ken ken@snowcrest.net (primary address) (if no answer, try ken.stuart@tigerteam.org )

Well, I don't think there's a such thing as an "ambient Pink Floyd album", as the mood and pace varies over each one. But to use an example, 1971's "Meddle" has a long track called "Echoes" that takes up side two; Namlook and Atmo's "Silence 2" on FAX samples the hell out of this track. I wouldn't really call any Floyd "Ambient"; more like "languid Psychedelia" in the early days. You can hardly go wrong with anything released before "Dark Side of the Moon"; "Piper At The Gates of Dawn", "Saucerful of Secrets", "Ummagumma", "Relics", "Meddle" etc. ... (though personally I was never quite as fond of stuff like "Atom Heart Mother" or the "More" soundtrack ... ) - Greg [ Gritting my teeth waiting for someone to say "Hey maaaaan, what about `The Wall', maaaaan" (-: ]

Wow, it's been a looong time, but my hazy memory says that parts of Meddle (esp. Echoes), Obscured By Clouds, and the soundtrack to More might interest you. This stuff is Pre-DSOTM, i.e. <1972 (i think) Speaking of PF. I happened to tape a DJ set that contained a techno/ambient mix of a song off of Wish You Were Here. Actually, it sounded more like the guitar bits were sampled and reused. I don't think it was that cheesey boot of WYWH that people have been blathering about; the quality was quite good. Nothing I need to own, but it was a pleasantly refreshing slant on yesteryear's hallucinations. I bought the XXth Aniv. edition CD of Dark Side of the Moon last year. It is "far out!" Has anyone noticed how "acid like" the 2nd track - On the Run - must be those VCS3 filters? bleep...bleep...transmat@teleport.com

I also got this, but I preferred the original more; this version seemed to lack warmth to me. It is for sale or trade if anyone is interested. OnNow: gimme a sec...just got home...ah, Global Coom is what the disc player chose...no complaints here.
