I thought this was common knowledge, but, directly or indirectly, Pink
Floyd influenced everybody!
Interstellar Overdrive, released in '66 or '67 (it's on their first album
"Piper At the Gates of Dawn", as well as some other places), had lots of
ambient elements (especially after the first 2 minutes of guitar-song
intro).
All the earlier innovative stuff like Sergeant Pepper, T. Dream, etc. were
directly influenced by Pink Floyd.
If you took your time machine and went back and prevented Pink Floyd from
getting together (maybe changing their art school application replies to
"denied" :-) ), then when you came to '94, the only albums you would
recognize would be Garth Brooks!
PS Unfortunately, Mobile Fidelity had to cancel their version of
"Ummagumma" because the master tapes have deteriorated. :-(
