I know I am probably one of the last people to get my hands on the "Flying High" disc by The Irresistible Force...but i still must make a few comments. I bought the album with slight trepidation having been unfortunate enough to have never heard the Irresistible Force before...i thought that it could be overhyped like moby or the aphex twin...and i also thought i would have overestimated it in my imagination...but lo and behold...my imagination was nowhere near the quality of the disc... i played the first track...and that was all i needed to let me know i would be in for one hell of a jam... sure enough i was...i wrote down all the tracks so i could write about each one...but i left it at home...(i really need to get a computer at the house)... the disc has six tracks, but it is 73:00 in length...the last track is "mountain high"...and it says its live...and its 20:00+ in length... i think the shortest track is around 9:00... overall, the music is incredible...the slogan..."i think therefore i ambient" is quite appropriate...but the underlying message is one i would take issue with...there seems to be a recurring statement...which in my opinion is "do drugs...do lots of drugs" but with music on this level...what is the need? i mean if you listened to miili vanilli...yeah maybe then you would need to be on something...but music like the Irresistible Force is a prepackaged trip...well maybe not that drastic...but it certainly is appealing... it has enough atmosphere for the sense of space and enough beat to keep its edge...the samples are nicely blended and sparsely placed giving the music more mystery...more room to sit back and imagine on your own...it is not the type of music that relies on sampling at a ridiculously high level...or more plainly...if you removed the samples, the music could stand on its own. am i rambling? well...with no further ado...i reccomend the music...but not the overall view of its maker... but hey...who the hell am i? later on, jasonosaj. @@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@ j a h 1 0 @ r a . m s s t a t e . e d u @@@ @@@ @@@ --------------------------------------- @@@ @@@ @@@ b R o t H e R A l p H a B e T @@@ @@@ @@@ --------------------------------------- @@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@-how many days to oblivion anyway?????-

Jon didn't tell you that you should take drugs. You talk about respecting all opinions. I respect people who take drugs, and I respect people who don't take drugs. It appears you only do the latter.... Cosmic

I try to avoid being judgemental about other people. Whether someone else takes drugs really doesn't bother me one way or the other. I forget who it was who read into the Flying High album the message that everyone should go out and take drugs. But there are other ways of interpreting the message, too.... Perhaps what Mixmaster Morris was saying was that the music was inspired by drugs -- maybe he's trying to express as music what he feels when he takes drugs. As far as I'm concerned, it's all irrelevant. I just bought the album this weekend, and I love the music. I really don't care what the titles are. Favourite track at the moment "Symphony in E" -- but that's probably mainly because I've been wanting to know who that track was by for ages.... Cosmic

put it this way: you don't take drugs and you evince a startling lack of respect for alternative viewpoints. most people i know *do* take drugs and they do not demonstrate this small-mindedness. i therefore infer that taking drugs is smart because it allows one to more readily see other viewpoints. QED.

i don't know, you tell me, you're the one who started this with invalidating one person's opinion (mixmaster morris' opinion). what do you THINK he was trying to say by making an album called Flying High with tracks with names like "Symphony in E", and featuring spoken bits from Terence McKenna? I'd like to know why this guy ((BROTHER ALPHABET jah10@.Ra.MsState.Edu)) is so anti-drug. Personal experience? Morals? Just curious... Jon has a point about being open-minded and about respect towards alternative lifestyles. Many any drugs are legal in other countries. Just because they're outlawed in America doesn't mean it's right. Alcohol is one of the WORSE drugs, and it's LEGAL! SHEESH!! Why should we be forced to accept that just because prior generations think it's "socially acceptable." And I've read propaganda (books) on how marijuana (and other drugs) cause criminal tendencies...this is utter BULLSHIT. How the hell can one pull off a crime when they're stoned? They should legalize it cause it would fit in with alcohol in the way that it keeps people suppressed. The reasons behind this...well that's another story. According to a netter's research, the War on Drugs is sponsored by the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission (or whatever that group is called). Certain people don't want the market crowded. money money money! A good hit of acid would wake them up... Oh, and a BIG reason why LSD is outlawed is because the GOVERNMENT, the UNITED STATES government, made it a dangerous drug by giving it to unsuspecting people. This of course caused bad repercussions for the drug! LSD has been known to have many positive uses, and in the right set & setting (as the adopted phrases describes) means a lot. Set & setting applies to alcohol too, but all it seems to do is drop social inhibitions to reveale the id, instead of the intellect (as LSD may). Getting drunk alone is signs of a depressed alcoholic...this has no solution but to SOBER UP! (BTW, LSD has been used with 50% success in curing alcoholics, lots of times in one single treatment!) Tripping can have a cathartic effect...impossible with alcohol. Anyway...this isn't alt.drugs or alt.psychoactives, so I'm sorry if I've revised the fire...but, I'm a pyromaniac. :)

I'd like to know why so many are condemning him for condemning others. That's called hypocrisy, and it totally ruins their otherwise largely valid points.

And just because things are legal in other countries doesn't mean _that's_ right. I can take you to countries where we can murder people without fear of government intervention. Does that mean we should legalize murder in america? Maybe. The pro-drug, anti-drug argument has been around for ages. Nobody's going to change the mind of another whose mind is already made up, on either side of it.
quoted 3 lines Alcohol is one of the WORSE drugs, and it's LEGAL! SHEESH!!> Alcohol is one of the WORSE drugs, and it's LEGAL! SHEESH!! > Why should we be forced to accept that just because prior generations > think it's "socially acceptable."
Personally, I feel it has nothing to do with legality. I would have no problem with the government making alcohol illegal, but even if it is legal, I have known enough people who's lives have been utterly wasted because of substance abuse, so I won't even consider using it. I feel the same way about drugs. I also feel that if someone is unwise enough to mess around with substances that alter the body with sometimes undesirable and unexpected effects, they should be allowed to. However, I think it's foolish to expect me to pay for their treatment if they should end up needing it, since they made the decision on their own.

Well, is that's just what amerika needs? More ways to suppress the people? Maybe you would like to just not worry about what the guys upstairs are doing, but no thanks, I'll pass. I prefer being in full knowledge of what the government and other people are doing that affects me. Again, it's a matter of choice. You're entitled to yours, and I'm entitled to mine. (stuff deleted)

Maybe, maybe not. What does it matter, it's good music. Maybe some people's reaction to it is enhanced by drugs, but some people's certainly might not be. - Dan |=|=|=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=/=|=/=|=/=|=/=|=|=|=|-------------------------- The 8-BIt Collective - Transmission 23 - edrone dan nicholson, Clonor the Other - Finnish Techno Zyndicate 8bit@vlad.bowker.com -=>ICBM volume one available soon!<=- moddan@vlad.bowker.com "This message has been sent out - did you originate it?"
