Well, since this is an "intelligent" list I'd tend to think that we are a bit more of a critical bunch. I don't believe I'd be here if I didn't think that was the case. Sure some people don't explain why they don't like this or do like that but if you stick around, you'll begin to realize which people have what taste and why. I'm sorry but I don't subscribe to the "if you've got nothing positive to say then don't say it" view. Flame me if you must (expect Pete Ashdown :) but I think debate is healthy as long as you keep your ego out of it. If somebody just ripped your favorite artist to bits then maybe it will make you think... a terrible thing I know... but this is a community and we learn from each other here. There are things I didn't used to like that I do now and vice versa. I'd like to think that we're a bit smarter than the "isn't Rave 'til Dawn great?" mentality and that we're a bit more serious about our music than the average joe. We've got not only an number of DJs but many musicians as well. Our taste in music is more specific so we don't swallow things as easily. Maybe we're going through a bashing stage and maybe next month we'll come full circle and have a praising stage. Now I'm babbling but I think I've gotten my point across... somewhere in there. ___ / / / / / / _ __/ (_/__/ / (__ (__ ___/ ---- I'm not flaming anyone, I'm just being "negative."

Of course we will, SAW II comes out next month ;) Incidentally, it appears as if SAW II will be released in the UK on March 7th, 2 weeks before its US release. Imports at the ready.. flu'id (floo'-)

I agree with a lot of what you say. But there's one point I'd like to comment on....

Exactly. That's why I always avoid making purportedly objective statements (xxx is crap, yyy is talentless, etc). I know too well that something I've found uninteresting in the past might 6 months later become one of my favourite pieces of music. As far as I'm concerned if a piece of music brings enjoyment to some people, then it has value. The fact that I may not be one of those people doesn't detract from that. Cosmic

I totally agree with Cosmic. Picasso said that what made something a work of art was whether it brought a response from people irrespective of whether that response was complimentary of the work or not. If someone stormed out of the room outraged that was good as at least a response had been achieved. In the same way if someone is able to enjoy a piece of music that I cannot, what right is it of mine to take this incredibly olympian attitude and declare them to be wrong? How can I possibly assume to see the music from their perspective and judge what they get out of the music to be right or not? So like Cosmic I don't like to make subjective statements and declare something to be crap etc. I may say that I don't like something, but if someone else gets something out of it then good for them, it is not my business to say if they are right or wrong. dan.
