I agree with a lot of what you say. But there's one point I'd like to

Exactly. That's why I always avoid making purportedly objective
statements (xxx is crap, yyy is talentless, etc).
I know too well that something I've found uninteresting in the past
might 6 months later become one of my favourite pieces of music.
As far as I'm concerned if a piece of music brings enjoyment to some
people, then it has value. The fact that I may not be one of those
people doesn't detract from that.
