My recent record purchases have been surprisingly good ... Boom Bip's 2xLP "Blue eyed in the red room" is solid in my opinion. I dig just about every track. He's always had a classy beat to him, but his production and expansion of his last album in general is remarkable. This is exactly what I wanted to hear, and then some. Daedelus' LP "Exquisite Corpse" was not what I was expecting from him, but it was a breath of fresh air to me. I'm not sure how much if it is sampled, but his tone has that old time feeling to it. It's done well. Aside maybe 2-3 tracks, it's another good one. Fog's CD "10th Avenue Freakout" first 4 tracks scared me into thinking this would be a dud (I love the last 2 full lengths, and hymies' is good too). The 2nd half of the album is more worth it. He's taken a more beat oriented approach, as well as moving towards a "band style" feel to his tracks. This one wasn't as good as Boom Bip or Daedelus, but I though I'd recommend it. I'm still sitting on the fence w/ Prefuse 73's new one. Some of it is cool, but some is the same old, same old ... Mike Jedlicka www.opticecho.com

Thanks for the reviews. I agree with you on the Daedelus, I always find his music interesting...could've done without the TTC track tho. I didn't know Fog had a new one out. I'll be sure to grab it, aong with the Boom Bip. I have one short review for the new Mice Parade...it's GORGEOUS! I just got it last night, and he seems to get better with each release. There's a bit more vocals on it. I enjoy his voice as well as the singer from mum (who sings on a couple tracks), so it's welcomed. Check it out, it's called Bem-Vinda Vontade. ak -----Original Message----- From: MJed5150@aol.com To: idm@hyperreal.org Sent: Mon, 4 Apr 2005 18:13:03 EDT Subject: [idm] Some recent albums I've enjoyed My recent record purchases have been surprisingly good ... I really like the Annie album -- http://www.anniemusic.co.uk/ -- pop done right. The Chymera album -- http://www.chymera.org/ -- I mastered it a couple weekends ago and listen to it nearly daily. Blind Willie Johnson. Anniemal struck me as too bubblegum for my tastes, but I see how people can like it. Recently I've been enjoying M.I.A. - Arular, which I (thankfully?) haven't read anything about, I just downloaded it on the strength of that "Galang" single, and it's hopping good. Gonna buy it soon. Also been loving the second Fischerspooner album, Odyssey. It's not the best thing ever, but I'm having fun with it, and the songs are tighter and more enjoyable than any of the indie-pop pap most everyone else seems to be claiming is the best thing ever these days. Guess I'm just a more of a dance music fan at heart, and prefer things closer to that. Other than that, Renku's "Persist" over at enpeg is still perking my ears up, and Tori Amos' "The Beekeeper" is an enjoyable, nostalgic respite for me from all the other sort of music I usually listen to. Not as good as her last album, but pretty close. Getting even further off the IDM track, The Devlins' latest, "Waves", is also pretty good. Back to IDM, there just hasn't been much great lately. Daft Punk's new one and the Chem Bros new one (ok, neither quite IDM, but closer than Tori and The Devlins) were both big disappointments to me. I like a couple tracks on both, but I haven't disliked anything from either of them yet, so they were pretty big let-downs. But the year's barely started, and I'm really looking forward to the new Freeform "Outside In" coming out on the 18th, and hopefully before the year's out we'll see new Autechre & Boards of Canada that won't disappoint. Also looking forward to trying out the new releases from Toytronic, n5MD and Merck when I can scrape more cash together. -Adam Piontek StaticBeats wrote:

For my part I've been rather liking [A]ppendics Shuffle's Smooth Hair in a squelchy slinky electro way, and Radiq's Graffiti & Rude Boy 67' in a somewhere between Rhythm & Sound and DJ Cam sort of way.
