My recent record purchases have been surprisingly good ...
Boom Bip's 2xLP "Blue eyed in the red room" is solid in my opinion. I dig
just about every track. He's always had a classy beat to him, but his
production and expansion of his last album in general is remarkable. This is
exactly what I wanted to hear, and then some.
Daedelus' LP "Exquisite Corpse" was not what I was expecting from him, but it
was a breath of fresh air to me. I'm not sure how much if it is sampled,
but his tone has that old time feeling to it. It's done well. Aside maybe
2-3 tracks, it's another good one.
Fog's CD "10th Avenue Freakout" first 4 tracks scared me into thinking this
would be a dud (I love the last 2 full lengths, and hymies' is good too). The
2nd half of the album is more worth it. He's taken a more beat oriented
approach, as well as moving towards a "band style" feel to his tracks. This one
wasn't as good as Boom Bip or Daedelus, but I though I'd recommend it.
I'm still sitting on the fence w/ Prefuse 73's new one. Some of it is cool,
but some is the same old, same old ...
