Hi all, as I'm a guitarist (as well as beat programmer), I'd like to know if any of you out there are electronica-playing guitarists too?!? Would love to know more abou your setups, techniques, observations when sharing stages/studios with electronic instruments/musicians. To kick things off, I'll start with what equipment/pedals I use: Boogie Mark IV amp, PRS guitar, Blade Strat, Godin Glissentar, Ovation acoustics --- pedals: H&K Tube Factor, Electro Harmonix Micro Synth, Moogerfooger, volume, wah, tuner, Voodoo Lab Tremolo, Ibanez Modulation, Boss Giga Delay, Boss Octaver, Boogie V-Twin, bottleneck, E-Bow. Looking forward to hearing from likeminded people. I use guitars in my electronic music as well as a variety of other instruments (didjeridoos, flutes, pianos, congos, shakers, xylophones, thumb drums, etc.).  I record with a shure sm57 mic directly into my G5 mac using soundhack when playing my acoustic.  I haven't been using my electric very much lately, but when I do I use a pedal combination of DOD grunge, Boss super phaser and digital delay, and my crybaby wah.  I use peak, protools, and reason to put effects over the guitar samples (if needed) to add finishing touches.  I really feel using live instruments adds much more to my tracks than just using my midi controller and computer programs alone.  It also gives off a live, free-flowing feel. most of my sounds are guitars or synths played through guitars, just really warped through fx, stretching, etc. sometimes i just mic my amps (mesa boogie dc5, and a fender princeton chorus), or i'll plug straight into my audio interface and run Amplitube which is a great amp simulator. another fun thing that i use all the time for bass is running a midi guitar pickup a roland gr-1, & then through softsynths, etc. there's tons of ways to go. cheers, zak c d a t a k i l l W E B http://cdatakill.c8.com E M A I L cdatakill@c8.com A O L I M cdatakill

cdatakill, do you think Amplitube sounds very good? I feel that it does sound nice but I wouldn't want to replace my tube amp with it - would you go as far as doing so? i certainly wouldn't replace my tube amp with it, but it makes a strong substitute when playing stuff live. it's sure as hell a lot easier than hauling a 100lb Mesa Boogie around. i'd always record my most important guitar parts, parts where i want just a beautiful, natural electric guitar sound with a tube amp. i'm willing to bet than when John McLaughlin records, he probably uses some vintage tube amps with some classic mics, because he has the luxury to. but i think if you want to experiment and find unique, odd tones run with Amplitube, cuz it's very flexible and easy to manipulate. and anymore, digital coldness can be erased with some great mastering plugins, or even hardware compressors, etc. i think it's always possible to warm sounds up one way or another. -zak c d a t a k i l l W E B http://cdatakill.c8.com E M A I L cdatakill@c8.com A O L I M cdatakill --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

even though the weight gets bothersome, you should find yourself an old orange amp, and use it with a semi acoustic guitar, in a perfect world it should be a gretcsh. cdatakill <cdatakill2@hotmail.com> wrote:

Does this mean you use the venue's PA? I am very curious to find out about this because, honestly, I wouldn't want to rely solely on the PA in most venues I play in. Moreover, if you use your own power amplification (and cabinet), you're likely to carry just as heavy weights as the mesa-boogie, right?
