i certainly wouldn't replace my tube amp with it, but it makes a strong
substitute when playing stuff live. it's sure as hell a lot easier than
hauling a 100lb Mesa Boogie around. i'd always record my most important
guitar parts, parts where i want just a beautiful, natural electric guitar
sound with a tube amp. i'm willing to bet than when John McLaughlin records,
he probably uses some vintage tube amps with some classic mics, because he
has the luxury to. but i think if you want to experiment and find unique,
odd tones run with Amplitube, cuz it's very flexible and easy to manipulate.
and anymore, digital coldness can be erased with some great mastering
plugins, or even hardware compressors, etc. i think it's always possible to
warm sounds up one way or another.
