these are two of the best remixes ever. there is simply no point in ever getting a single artist to remix from now on, brothomstates did an excellent, superb job. the third remix, which didnt seem to fit under defocus, is on claro LP. i've spent a few hours googling claro + qtio and the net result is that 99.9% reviewers have so much fun dissing everything he does on claro and on qtio. it is also very obvious that they havent bothered listening to any of it. they claim that claro and qtio lack melodies, and that brothomstates has never heard of a tune let alone made one. that simply isnt true. the statement doesnt work in any way. there's tunes, theres even strings, theres melodies, basslines, the whole thing. and certainly arranged in a very musical, very thoughtful way, with a special edge you only get when you put yourself into it. everything he does has his own sound in it. warp fits brothomstates as well as brothomstates fits warp. 100%. to see him finally putting out a debut ep and a debut lp, and then seeing both of them absolutely ravaged by loose-gun reviewers, to see him absolutely ignored and shunned as an autechre/plaid/boc copycat (which he is not.end of discussion) and then there's people on here that want him dropped from warp?? what the fuck are you people on? do you even want to listen to music? theres people out there who are very, _very_ glad to see him on warp, and look forward to hearing any new brothomstates, and then there's people who have somehow acquired the grand knowledge that leads them into the epic conclusion of him being a worthless derivative copycat. where does this supposed "knowledge" come from? shame on you lot. -- esa ruoho www.lackluster.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I certainly see signs of being derivative. Doesn't make me right or wrong, though. That's how i see it, and it's not like I've jumped the gun, I've listened to Qtio, and ESPECIALLY claro dozens of times. There's some sweet tunes on it. It certainly forge new passageways into music and sound, though. The structures, melodies, and textures are all very rehashed. He may not intentionally copycatting, but through simple osmosis and picking and choosing what he likes through his influences, it comes off that way to me. sorry. and i'm sober, btw. and i listen to a lot of music, including yours (which i'll admit, you have more originality in style than brothomstates, easy). on a good note, there's a really nice track on the penguin mechanics vol 3 by brothomstates, called "not kava" I think. one of his better songs.

its a subjective issue. you're not necessarily right if theres a lot of people in the other camp. and neither am i.
