So the thing that's been blowing my socks off lately is the last album by Emperor, "Prometheus..." and I was wondering if anyone thinks likewise. I'm more than impressed by their intriguing mix of bullshit classical, true black metal with more 80's sounding soaring guitars, and their astonishing song writing capabilities, verging on being most elaborate prog I've heard in years. Any thoughts? Also of note are the Soundhack records, but I'm not exactly sure when they were released, Lesser MP3 disk (12 hours running time!!), and the collaborative live recordings of Matmos and Lesser in "Drug opera"- a truly unusual album going in about 100 different directions simultaneously. Oh, and the new Sutech is fucking super-great! -donna _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Emperor is pretty damn hot, what with the ritual murders and all. But these days I'm a little more fascinated by Mortiis, whose lead singer has had prostheses attached to his nose and ears to make him even more dark. Here are some desktop pictures. I've got one on my powerbook. http://mortiis.neverland.nu/bonus/wallpapers.asp As far as bullshit classical is concerned, you want "Black Aria" by Glenn Danzig. Some of the worst modern "classical" "music" ever recorded, by the king himself. For your prog needs, may I humbly recommend you check out Gentle Giant's "The Missing Piece". Also anybody on this list who hasn't yet taken a listen to Pyromania by Def Leppard is missing out on some serious clues to the new directions Autechre will be taking on their next release. Mutt Lange producing. Peace out. -Josh -- String Theory -- http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi -- String Theory's Anhedonia CD/LP available at finer music stores worldwide --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Actually, the rumours about these prostheses being permanently attached are untrue. I briefly met Mr. Mortiis a couple of years ago when he was in Toronto for a show (he was introduced to me by the person presenting the concert, so I know for a fact that it was him), and his nose and ears looked quite normal. Seemed like a quiet & nice guy as well - but don't thay say that about all psychopathic church-burning death-metal murderers?

I had not heard of Mortiis (being a death metal poseur and all) but I read a lot at the site and it does indeed sound interesting! Will most def check out ASAP.

You say this as a joke (right?), but for the past two years I've been buyig up all these 80's rock and metal records up at thrift stores, etc. and have really come to like some of this music again, and I think Pyromania is a damn good record. (Now their follow up album is almost unlistenable) Also of note in my "new again" series: Scorpions, Foreigner, and STYX!! -Donna www.cockrockdisco.com _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I guess it doesn't really count as death metal ... i think it's more goth/ambient As far as Pyromania is concerned, i'm not joking at all when I say that everybody should listen to it... it is a fantastic record. I only really discovered Pyromania very recently, as when it was released I was far "too cool" to give it an unbiased listen. I had had the same experience with Guns'n'Roses' Appetite for Destruction and Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast. I'm sure Motley Crue put out an enjoyable album somewhere along the line, but I haven't started investigating yet. Sincerely good stuff. I definitely hear ya on the Scorps, Foreigner and Styx. Styx and Cheap Trick are my hometown boyees. Along with Enuff Z'Enuff, but I won't go so far as to say i'm proud of THEM... Peace Josh
