I know I'm clearly in the minority when I say that their "Music Has a Right..." album didn't turn me on all that much, but a friend of mine gave me an mp3 of theirs called "XYZ" I think. This track I like. Where does this song come from and do they have others which sound similar to it? Am I mistaken in thinking that the sound of this song is a departure from the "trademark" or "standard" sound? _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. well a boc track is a boc track. its a bit like watching deniro or vince vaughn, there is common component to the product. and IMO the new EP was very week compared to their other ouput as late, especially the marumari releases. ta ta. kd. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

actually, the reason they never released "XYZ" is because they felt it was below the standards of normal BOC output. essentially, they didn't like it enough to release it. interesting that you like it more than their normal output :D

true. i believe some talk went about a while back on either this list or another about their use of SH-1080 or something like that. i don't remember gear names. anywho, sounds very BOC'ish.

the marumari releases are not BOC. i believe josh said so himself that a friend made up the names and put them on napster for distribution. at least that's the rumor. they're not BOC though, that's for sure :D cheers, /derek p.s. i've got the mp3's, and i like the new EP. although i'm stuck on the new red snapper right now --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

(Hi, I am new) Boards of Canada - Peel Session 4 - XYZ is 8:04 (according to the mp3 that I have). Well, "getting" something and understanding something are two different things. Not understanding a selection of music implies (to me) that the listener is having trouble comprehending what he/she is qualifying what he/she is listening to as music altogether. Not "getting" something implies that the listener hasn't mustered enough appreciation for the music just yet. Seriously though, I don't think there's anyone on this list that doesn't understand (by the above definition) any artist's music we discuss here. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree with Brian actually. I've always thought BOC were somewhat overrated personally, in particular the fantastically patchy Music Has The Right To Children. Incidentally, I don't think it's necessary to "understand" an album to enjoy it. Intellectualising music in this way is elitist bollocks IMHO and I don't think there's anything intellectual or indeed anything to understand about Music Has The Right To Children other than that it's electronic music which evokes an emotional response. I'm also not an avid collector of BOC material and only have selected releases of theirs. I just wanted to say that having just received a copy of In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country I think it's one of their best releases since the Hi Scores ep (with the exception of Zoetrope which comes across as a rather lazy, uninteresting EP filler). I haven't heard the same sort of praise for this ep as for their other works. Does this mean it's not particularly highly regarded? )Jamesq.
