Just an idea: quite a few places offer 25Mb of free web space these days, so what if a bunch of people set up a web-ring-like arrangement so that there were a handful of idm mp3s on each site plus links to others? Between us we must have most of the stuff that was up on bleepbloop, and this would distribute the load over multiple servers too. Would this contravene any of the agreements under which this web space is offered? Are there any technical reasons why this wouldn't work? What legal issues did bleepbloop hit? -- Richard --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sound in principle....

I am sure you mean that between us, we have it on ORIGINAL 12" or CD format?...

yes, most definitely, most free web hosts, and paid ones for that matter have clauses in their agreements that state you will not distribute illegal material... and although, I believe bleep bloop was about distributing out of print material; most, if not all of it would still have been under copyright to the artist or label it was released on. I wouldn't think the sites would last more than a few weeks...

Errr.. that it was distribution copyright material... English and American law says this is naughty... as does most of the western world I think!.... my 2 pence/cents/lira, Dan. -- dan@madvision.co.uk www.madvision.co.uk t:(+44) 7050 801701 f:(+44) 7050 801704 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello, I was thinking, there is this amazing program napster (www.napster.com) which redefines the trading of mp3s. You log on to the program, and the server catalogs the mp3s in your shared directory, and once you are logged in can search for mp3s through the 100 of thousands of mp3s being shared by other users at that point (and other users can also see what you are sharing). Once you find one you like, you simply cue it for download. I would definitely like to see some more idmsters online, this would be a great way to get the mp3s you are looking for....every once in a while I'll see the random autechre remix or aphex twin song, but it would be great if a lot of people were trading idm stuff. Perhaps we could even convince Napster to add an idm chat room? (There is already an ambient one)....

Bill, definitely on the Napster tip already. Saw some idm stuff on there once always sort of wondered who was on there.... Maybe I shall leave my computer on all during this thanksgiving vacation and let everyone leach off of it. well since there seems to be a demand for it i have put up a bleepbloop mirror of my own, running off of my own personal resources as well as my time put into it. I will be willing to give out PERSONAL leech accounts that will be host restricted, but i would like to ask for somethign small in return for each acount(i.e. 2-3 mp3's of another out of print 12" that i could add to the offered collection or anything else that you or I feel is fair) please email me offlist or msg me on efnet irc under merck(i will be busy this week, so dont get mad if it takes a couple days) -merck ----- Original Message ----- From: Rusty Householter <rdhouse@ilstu.edu> To: <idm@hyperreal.org>; Bill, Wright <wwright@mail.clemson.edu> Sent: Monday, November 22, 1999 1:35 PM Subject: Re: (idm) Idea for bleepbloop ftp site replacement
