i've listened to this track (Autechre EP7 track_09) a million times and it still blows my mind. it has to be the most advanced piece of music ever composed (exaggerating for the purpose of emphasis). i was really curious as to why they chose to title it 'zeiss contarex' so i researched it a bit and discovered that "Carl Zeiss introduced the first surgical microscope in 1953, marking the beginning of practical microsurgery. Today, Carl Zeiss remains the leader in microsurgical technology.." There is also a line of cameras known as the Zeiss Ikon Contarex..... brap on joe

ja the lead melody of this track is testament to the truth that musicality does not depend on adherence to a tone-scale as all civilized forms of music tend to suggest. the melody makes steps up an arbitrary scale that sounds detuned and beautiful, then slides listlessly down back to the beginning of the melody... it is more of this "noise *is* music stuff" we've seen before, but mastered. the track, in its starkness, bored and intimidated me at first (just as all stark music music--pole, funkstorung, etc.--have), but it has definitely been the track i go back to the most on the disc in the long run. surprise, suprise... .af. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Wankers. They probably learned that from watching the Discovery Channel while smoking a joint. Andrei joseph fitzpatrick wrote:
