...been searching for a Mac application that would give the user real-time control over the pitch of soundfiles. It's needed this for live application, so the real-time capability is STRESSED. Ideally, something along the lines of a turntable-like interface, as that's the closest approximation I can come up with to my actual intent. And the gradation has to be fine, as I'm dealing with some sort of precision here. I've been playing with Hyperprism for a bit, but the algorithm works on a two-dimensional scale, which leads to a lot of unwanted artifacts (i.e. not the background anomalies the 'Bucket Brigade' thread has made us all learn to love...). Any suggestions would be welcome. -Keith. np- EBN E SYNC (wordsound). Track #5 has to be the best thing any of those 'WE' lads have committed to tape. The lack of a vinyl pressing is a crime. __________________________________________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge.________________________ _________________________________PO Box 382864-2864 Cambridge, MA 02238-2864____________________________ _______________________________________________USA _______________Main URL: http://www.tiac.net/users/sheket __________________________________________________

read your hyperprism manual again. you can set the time range to 0/0 which means that only the pitch axis has any effect on the sound. hope that helps. unfortunately hyperprism seems to be the best real-time commerical software for dicking with pitch via a graphic interface, although there may be shareware programs i've never heard of. actually, i've gotten some interesting scratching-sounding stuff with sound designer 2's scrub mode while fucking around at work. there are other programs which emulate turntable-ish slow downs or speed-ups, but i don't know of any that work in real time. np: seefeel "when face was face" "a dream is worth a thousand pictures, the mouths of lampreys a thousand more..."

Absolutely. SD 2's scrub mode is great for this (though you do have the limitation of it being ram-based to contend with) but for shortish 'digital scratching' it's quite cool. To
quoted 1 line emulate turntable-ish slow downs or speed-ups,>emulate turntable-ish slow downs or speed-ups,
there is an Audiosuite plug-in for ProTools called Vari-Fi (from Digidesign) that does just this, unfortunately it does ONLY that. It is supposed to emulate a TT slow-down and you can't vary the rate of slowdown / speed-up, or scratch or whatever. But if you are looking for an 'authentic' TT slow-down it might do the job (i haven't played with it much) martin wheeler paris france ps - attention, shameless plug follows. For an example of excessive use of SD 2 scrub-based digital scratching, check out the 'Hornithology' track on Rhys Chatham & Martin Wheeler 'NEON', Ntone Records: NTONE CDS15

I found sort of what I had originally intended to find, if anyone's interested. It's a vari-speed CD player-emulator called Retro CD 1.5. A demo is available at various points throughout the internet (try MIT's hyperarchive), which allows for 4 hours of occasionally interrupted use upon installation, before registering for $10. It will buffer, then play audio directly off of a CD at a variable rates from 200% to 0% at degrees of %0.001. I burned a CD of some looped audio, then tooled for a bit, mixing it with records and such. Really handy for the live. Thanks for all of the suggestions, though. I think I will check out that Var-Fi plug in, Martin. You've managed to coax some great sounds out of it. -Keith __________________________________________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge.________________________ _________________________________PO Box 382864-2864 Cambridge, MA 02238-2864____________________________ _______________________________________________USA _______________Main URL: http://www.tiac.net/users/sheket __________________________________________________
