Giving credit to warp-net on your site does not justify the fact that you modified the images and put them on your site without permission. There are copyright laws, you know. I think you should show some respect for the artists and the label. Suzanne

Why else would he devote so much time to creating a web site devoted to Aphex Twin? As far as asking for permission first, Warp would have probably okayed the use of the image since they are "reasonable people". However, after this reading this thread, I'm not quite so sure anymore. ;) | E r i c | [mail] franse@engr.arizona.edu | | F r a n s | [web] http://intermix.engr.arizona.edu/~franse |

yes. I respect gonzi for putting the effort into the sites and he has 'liased' to some extent with me in the past something I was quite happy to do.

of course we would have said yes - if we'd had the rights ourselves to do so - quite often we do not. for instance theoretically all our DR artwork is usually licensed for record covers only. DR retain the copyright in all other media. the theft of the sqpsher photo's would be particulary galling for the photographer who is not being credited or paid. we have to pay for those photo's and mixmag have to have permission to use them. the approval of this kind of use is part of what I do at warp - I can't remember refusing a request yet. there is a fine line between being precious and petty and protecting other people's rights and I try to tread carefully. g.

many of whom are sound terrorists, who are doing precisely the same thing with samples. particularly the early Warp stuff is sample-fest. take a cue from Negativland and steal more often. or whine like a major label about the law if you will. peace john ________________________________________________________________________ The power of the dance is a dangerous power. Yes, I probably should have asked but sometimes when you get in a trance while making a page normal things slip your mind. Once I forgot to go to the bathroom and wet myself while reformatting icons for the squarepusher page. It's true. I did credit warp-net for the pics quite clearly on the spymania page though. Just for the record I've gotten paid for my pages, but not with money. With the stuff you feel inside that's worth more than money! Sorry this thread has dragged on. Hopefully this will cap it.

Actually, there is a paper being published soon that suggests the universe is NOT an infinitely repeating event but a single finite event, with it's start at the big bang and it's eventual death when the stars born from that event die out and universe is left expanding infinitely in darkness. Suppose for a minute that's true and that everything we know of time and space is one event with a begining and an end. Now THAT is disturbing. _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm
