Hello. There seems to be a lot of healthy interest in Skam Records at the moment. Such a pity a lot of their releases are hard to come by. Anyway, can anyone out there recommend labels (preferably UK-based) that are releasing similar stuff? (Warp, R&S and Rephlex aside.) I love all that Autechre/Gescom stuff -- there's got to be more people out there tapped into the same wavelength. If not, I'm just going to have to write it all myself! .+'''+. mark@sonance.demon.co.uk M A R K http://www.netlink.co.uk/users/sonance/ `+.,.+' http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

I spoke with Andy just the other day, and I got the impression that everything from the Gescoms, Freeforms and Jegas (apparently pronounced Jega as in 'Jay' and not Yega... but that's another kettle of yish) were all still in print. Might want to push your local supplier into digging a little deeper. t h e s k a m i s o u t t h e r e . . . . . . . Check out anything on Source Records. www.obsolete.com/source-records I highly recommend the System 360 and Ro70 meets Move D releases. 100% Pure is also a pretty good label, look for Edge of Motion "Ad Hoc" Some of the older releases I've seen on that label are more breaks & funk oriented. \|/ @--out----------*--+what-I-got-in-my-head-you-can't-buy-steal-or-borrow /|\ --Paul p. Bisk's CD is on Sub Rosa, I believe. It had the same sense of experimentation and texture, but it didn't quite develop as well as Autechre's stuff, so I didn't buy the CD. Anyway, you might want to at least check it out... | E r i c | [mail] franse@engr.arizona.edu | | F r a n s | [web] http://intermix.engr.arizona.edu/~franse |

I've found, quite to the contrary, that Bisk's debut strikes the same gold that Autechre haven't quite been able to relocate since _Amber_. I still have trouble hearing _Tri Repetae_ as much more than a collection of long, somewhat monotonous loops. The delicate tension and brooding personality of Bisk's _Time_ suggests what Autechre could have evolved given two years to polish the genius of _Amber_. Miles

I think that BISK is pretty cool experimental IDM in the same vein as Autechre, but it lacks the beauty that some Autechre tracks have. Autechre seems more focused and better overall. Bisk would be a band to watch in the future. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . E D U

Whether it "develops" less than an Autechre, I not sure, but there is certainly a good bit more happening on the Bisk CD. Where Autechre strings it out smoothly and evenly, Bisk's dynamic behavior of sounds and beats keeps you in anticipation. I'm kind of surprised we haven't heard more of Bisk's _Time_ on here.
