I'm sure as hell glad that there's a place I can go where people have the same WARPed out sense of music as I do...most people have a bad REPHLEX-type reaction to IDM. Example: Went to Grooveriders today (thursday = UPS day!) with my copy of AMP...told'em "you guys gotta check out this 'Second Bad Vilbel' video, it's the shit. put it on now!" So they put the tape on the big monitor hanging from the roof, FFWD thru the first couple of videos, stop on Underworld and say "ooooohhhh". I say "no,no, not that, go on further". They get to Autechre and hit play... Guess what happens now? All the househeads look up and go "what the fuck is this, a new 'Nine Inch Nails' video?" They let the video play, my friend says "that's nice" and less then 30 seconds later, everyones back to the bins, looking for the latest cheesy deep house 12". Oh well, simple minds like simple things (or however that goes). What the hell can you do? I'll say it again...I'm glad this list is here, I'm glad that there's a bunch of cool, crazy cats out there to geek out with, and I'm glad I'm a part of it! signing off again, brock np: the sound of my hard drive defraging, leaky faucets & the occasional car passing by.

The Autechre video (I saw AMP last night, wahoo) was composed of generally low quality and confusing video of some sort of alien and nearer the end of the video a 4 legged robot which provided a lot of neato, mechanical action shots.. still in different varieties of low-quality video usually. Though I may be mistaken, those little MPG videos on the Warp Records site may be excerpts from the video. Any they are audio mpeg movies, so you have some idea as to what's going on. It uses the robots pictured inside Tri Repetae(US version.. I'm not sure if the UK one is any different). The camera pretty much focuses in out on those greyish-green mechanical robot things, and switches to different ones. During the noisy parts the screen distorts. And if I recall the whole thing is letterboxed. That description doesn't make it sound all that special.. but it really is pretty cool. I think the fact that the video is made to go really well with the music is what really makes it so good. _john ---This Sig. aside from the aforementioned shots of fuzzy robots...the autechre video seems to be especially good at capturing a feeling imparted by the song...the feeling that it elicited in me was that scary sort of trippy feeling that you get when you try to watch a movie like 'The Shining' on two hits of liquid acid...ominous dark and foreboding...i have to agree that the actual quality of the video images was somewhat lacking, but the low resolution image is definitley a good thing...to explain it is impossible...but...basically out of focuss insectile robots. very dark image. evil. the most amazing thing about this video is its complete avoidance of editing "to the music" by which i mean that the image did not necesaarily define itself according to the music, but attempted to add on to the music in order to create a work of art that, similar to the art of DJing, transcends the pieces that compose it. i hope that this description isn't too coherent. thank you.
