to: matthew d salcido <mattsalcido@juno.com> Maryanne Amacher released a disc on Tzadik last year. As far as I know she only has one other disc that was released in the late 80s. Most of her stuff is sound installation, tone design for specific rooms (train terminals, bank tower foyers etc). She may also have one or two tracks on out of print compilations. I know she lives in Kingston, New York. You might find some stuff about her searching for that. You might also want to check Folke Rabe, a swedish composer that does similar stuff.

Really? I thought the Alan Licht piece in The Wire said that this was the first recording. Do tell.

I dunno about that... the closest thing I can think of off hand would be more along the lines of David Tudor's _Neural Synthesis_ series. Rabe is minimal godhead similar to Rafael Toral's longer pieces, Charlemagne Palestine's electronic work, or Jliat (long live the DX-7!). Did the Whitney's threat of sponsoring an Amacher installation during their music series (the one at the museum, not the one at the Knit) actually come to fruition? -rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I vaguely remembered discussing with a mate that the Music Rooms had been released sometime in the 80s. I did little a research and turns out there was only one track on a compiliation put out by Elektra with just one track. You may be right too that Rabe isn't a close comparison, put Neural Syntheses to me seems far more fractured in terms of sound than Amacher. Rabe in spirit if not in practical application approaches more towards Amacher's psychoacoustical studies of harmonics and implied sounds. Cheers
