I don't think Rephlex, and all the others who put their tuppence in were
doing themselves any favours by hyping Tom up, as people will only end
up disappointed. I went and bought this record with an open mind, not
expecting brilliance, not expecting a new Chick Corea (I mean... !), and
I found that it was a really good record, with some faults, but also
some unique ideas. Granted, the Plug records wipe the floor with this
in terms of Jazz wierdness, but the live instrumentation, range of
tempos, and generally dirty lo-fi production make this a must buy, a
perfect antidote to the Movin Shadow/Good Looking sound (whose records I
also really like!) I must say I'm looking forward to the Rephlex and
Warp releases, despite, not because of, the hype.
GE>Anyway, I'm not convinced. Andrea Parker has it all over this guy, for now.
GE>IMNSHO.
Not having heard any Andrea Parker material except for the 'io' remix on
Mowax, can anyone give me some feedback on the LP or EP, as I thought
the remix was, like, total rubbish.
Cheers,
SjaY.
