Hi! On 12-05-96, Greg wrote... GE>on the racks I spied the "Allroy Road Tracks" 12". Well, since GE>this is the Future Of Music As We Know It [tm], of course I had to give it a GE>spin ... GE>Bwah hah hah. Please tell me it was a joke. "Central Line" turned out to GE>be nothing but a busy vaguely drum n' bass rhythm with aimless Jazz noodlings GE>over it. If I want to hear Jazz-influenced lines over phat rhythms, I'll go GE>straight to the master thanks - Carl Craig. "Sarcacid" and "Nux Vomica" were GE>forgettable. I will grant him that "Toast For Hardy" contained some GE>interesting noises, but one decent track on a 12" doth not the Future Of GE>Music make. I don't think Rephlex, and all the others who put their tuppence in were doing themselves any favours by hyping Tom up, as people will only end up disappointed. I went and bought this record with an open mind, not expecting brilliance, not expecting a new Chick Corea (I mean... !), and I found that it was a really good record, with some faults, but also some unique ideas. Granted, the Plug records wipe the floor with this in terms of Jazz wierdness, but the live instrumentation, range of tempos, and generally dirty lo-fi production make this a must buy, a perfect antidote to the Movin Shadow/Good Looking sound (whose records I also really like!) I must say I'm looking forward to the Rephlex and Warp releases, despite, not because of, the hype. GE>Anyway, I'm not convinced. Andrea Parker has it all over this guy, for now. GE>IMNSHO. Not having heard any Andrea Parker material except for the 'io' remix on Mowax, can anyone give me some feedback on the LP or EP, as I thought the remix was, like, total rubbish.
