i'd like to get together a nice little set of brazilian / afro cuban jazzy funky house type stuff for new years as well as my minimal house. i figure the minimal is good for pre-midnite mingling, and afterwards people would want some groove. any suggestions on immaculate new records? any older ones? help! :) a. The new Ian Pooley stuff is great on 'Since Then' There's a track on the new Ananda Project double pack "Release" (the whole thing is excellent) that's of Latin flair both go great together too. This will sound obscure, but... there's a Sade remix that I have on white label of "Hant Me"-perhaps some one can train spot this? that is excellent Classic Latin Jazz too, is excellent always to mix on- stuff from Tinto Puente or any of the Buena Vista Social Club artists. makes a nice seem from past and present. Some Filla Brazilla remixes or productions as well. There is a new Costas CD out- Hotel Costas (Costas, Volume three) tre good. Its a mix CD, but I suggest it just for your listening pleasure. I think that's dj sneak. But I really like the newer ones, Removable Tatoo and Excursions 2000. There was a story on NPR last night about how afro-beat is making a comeback in the UK for DJs to spin in addition to or instead of house. Apparently there is a new compilation called "The Shrine" which may point you to some good records to search out. At 10:49 AM 12/7/2000 -0800, you wrote:

Om Records (http://www.omrecords.com) -- the Sound Design v.1 (mixed on CD by Marques Wyatt, unmixed on vinyl triple pack) has some killer tracks in that general vein. "Beau Mot Plage" by Isolee, Orix'as -- Saudacao Aos Orix'as is the bomb Brazilian style track. Plus Stereo People 'stereo' remixed by Global Communication in their inimitable style. Future Tropic mixed by Afro Mystik has great stuff too. Other than that hit the goodwills and used record stores and buy up a bunch of salsa and sergio mendes records. Nearly every one has an up-tempo number that mixes with house ... kent williams -- kent@avalon.net http://jump.to/cornwarning -- Iowa's First Techno Record Label http://www.mp3.com/chaircrusher -- tunes On Thu, 7 Dec 2000, alland[byallo] wrote:

Try the upcoming comp "Motion -the Six Degrees Dance Collection" - tracks by Bebel Gilberto, Sylk 130, dZihan & Kamien [at jazz rmx] & others; http://www.sixdegreesrecords.com/ Also Zuba 103 and Suba might tickle your fancy I'll echo what's below about Isolee - Beau Mot Plage, if you don't own this already buy it now! And get all the remixes [esp.*freeform rmx], this is an *extraordinary* piece of music. -i --- Kent williams <kent@avalon.net> wrote:

OH YEAHHH. Get the Bebel Gilberto record, with production from Amon Tobin and Thievery Corporation, though the sparer guitar and voice stuff is IMHO better than the electronica-influenced tracks. Brasil 2Mil as well I heard some stuff in Detroit last summer that blew me away -- don't know what it's called but it's a fresh take on the 60's and 70's bossa nova/samba sound, only structured more for dancefloors. That stuff was out cold. too bad i don't know who did it! And run, do not walk to buy Banda Black Rio: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000007XCK/o/qid=976246879/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_pm_1_3/107-8983312-8732525 Positively sublime 70's brazilian funk -- and there's one track on there that would be sublime mixed with house. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
