They might have been referring to Bogdan as in Rephlex artist Bogdan Raczynski. His style is definitely in the vein of big loada-style breakbeats and his names sounds like mogdon. : ) For more info check his homepage at: http://www.sito.org/~bogdan/ Or his page on the Rephlex site at: http://www.rephlex.com/artists/bogdan/q.htm -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Another list of things I've purchased or recorded recently. 1. David Kristian "Synaesthesia" - 1994 What can I say. I heard how good it is from many trustworthy people on the list but I could not even imagine how good it really is. I thought only Ae made such masterpieces in idm key at that time. It is brilliant and is an absolute must have for idm-ambient lovers. Very deep, complex and involving. If when I listen to Ae I see some alien influence behind it, in this case it's only analogue machines that send their encoded message in your head. 10/10 2. David Kristian "Woodworking" - 1999 Remix project by vary different artsist which makes it rather non solid work for those not fimiliar with noise masters from Alien8 Recordings. In my opinion Solvent, Lowfish, Kid606 and Kristian itself are most comprehensible pieces on the album. Other tracks are up to the taste of the listener as part of them are experimental noise and another part is deep analogue ambient stuff. Very original remix work. 7/10 3. David Kristian "Beneath the Valley of the Modulars" - 1999 Latest to date masterpiece from the master of beat oriented analogue idm sound including his works from 1994 to 1998. Album is claimed to have no non-analogue sound sources and stands as a perfect example of how good musician can progress during four years if he knows what he's doing. Brilliant standalone tracks compile a great must-have for many idm land worshippers. 9.5/10 4. Coalescense - 1999 Thanx to people from Alien8 I got this one free of charge just for ordering 3 Kristian albums. I cannot admit that I'm a big fan of noise but this album has a great examples of how a label could stand to a stable position of experimental music house. Ambient, harsh noise and just extreme experimentations with sound compile this album in a very interesting sound voyage. Aube, Artifician Memory Trance, Crawl Unit and, of course David Kristian are my favorite. However be prepared to turn voulme down on Massonna,Knurl or Merzbow tracks... 8) 4/10 5. Herbalizer "Very Mercenary" - 1999 This latest album from one of Ninja Tune frequenter is my first album of him. Great mix of rap, live sound and computer sampling within the frames of original Ninja sound. I love nearly half of what is made on Ninja Tune. This one falls in the half I like. 8/10 Alien reviewing.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Does anyone have a Phat Boy, or know if its any good? I was looking into getting one to use with Audiomulch for my live show, but I'm not totally convinced as of yet. I used this word because music on the site in lower than 192ps makes me feel such way. Sorry if it sounded that harsh. My English sometimes does not allow me to rightly express my statements. Alien np. L@N - s/t

As before, I would like to briefly present a report on new CDs I've got: L@N - S/T (A-Musik) Brilliant example of authentic approach to minimal techno. Two channells speak to each other their digital stories. Combined they produce a parallel plane of psychedelic minimalism. btw. I've found their second CD pressed on Staalplaat. http://www.staalplaat.com I'm almost sure they made it in such way that it contains all previously vinyl only tracks from their two LPs. 9/10 ____ Solvent - s/t (Suction) Finally, I got it! I've waited so long for it but it gone much further my expectations. Another exceptional example of authentic approach to idm. Every track's a pleasant surprise and differs from the other ones. Agressive and melodic at the same time. If you still do not have it, run for it or you'll miss a full page of idm history recently written. 10/10 (must have) _______________ Solvent - Solvently One Listens (Suction) At first listening I was a little bit confused being earlier presented to his first CD. New one sounded much solfter, melodic and simplistic to me. Soon I realized that it was just another part of Jason Amm. This one was as much melodic and closer to ambient as previous one was agressive and harsh. It is a beutiful combination of engaging short stories crafted in the best traditions of BoC, Bola, and PLaid, though still made in his own way. 8.5/10 ______ Lowfish - Fear Not the Snow and Other Low-Fiing Objects (Suction) One more suction robot producing excellent digital brain-dancing structures of refined authenticity. Harder and less melodic than Solvent, Lowfish shall definitely appeal to ae, rdj, david kristian or cylob like music fans. Again every track sounds different from the other ones and makes general summary merely useless and undescriptive as in Solvent's case. 9/10 ____ Phoenecia - Odd Jobs (Schematic) I've never heard original Phoenecia releases (only a remix track on Kristian's "Woodworking"), yet I'm already sure it can't be bad owing to the perfect remix work done by Ae, Soul Oddity, PBO, Richard Devine(best imho) and others. It's short (41 min), though the stream of musical information pouring from speakers is so intense that the overall sound data volume would not even fit on CD. Agressive idm as complex and mind-blowing as you would expect from the roster. Rarely a remix project is made that good. 9/10 ____ Boards of Canada - High Scores (Scam) The worst about this release is that it is short (about 30 mins.). Everything else is in BoC style of warm electronic embrace of childhood dreams. Nothing more to say, it's more than worth a listen to BoC admirers. 7.5/10 ______ Thx for attention. Wish you good music and good night. Alien almost falling asleep np. 1. KO -WRECK TECHNIQUE - Ko-wrecktion (Warp) 1999 CDEP Should I like rap, hip-hop, scratches, etc. more I would be stunned by this Ep. However, being rather cold to those music streams and techniques I would comment on it as a good scratch, hip-hop idm for those who are into it. DJ Craze must have included his stylish scratchy DJ technique over the general supervision from PBO to produce excellent example of style combination and experimentation with sound. However, the fantastic remix by Plaid (in his recent Restproof Clockwork way) makes the whole EP worth buying nevertheless. IMHO: 5 of 10 2. FREEFORM - Prowl (Warp) 1996 CDEP I love the guy. His stuff is absolutely different in each album but still can be arranged in one concept: freestyle electronic music. Polirhythmic waves and layers of clicks, blops and other normal idm sounds mix in absolutely new unexplored directions making it sound different yet just as involving and stunning. This one is more experimental (in a way of music intensity) than other releases from him in, more sounds rich and less ambient. IMHO: 8 of 10 3. BOLA - Soup (Skam) 1998 CD I know that many have told their opinions on this one before and can only add that this is a prefect example of professional slow electronica (idm ambient) to date. Should be listened in the whole to make proper effect. Nothing to particulary grab you attention much during listenting yet very involving and "reality making" (I use this term to describe a music that is well fit for backgrounds and upon listening evokes a feeling of envelopping into new layers of reality carring you far away in your daydreaming - very subjective indeed). IMHO: 8 of 10 4. DAVID KRISTIAN - "Room Tone" (Alien8) 1999 CD The most unexplored field of his music for me. Full Kristian flavor dark ambient soundtracks being his recent obsession. Only the last track sounds like something from "Beneath the Valley of Modular Synths". Other stuff is pure low volume analogue dark ambient based on traditional Kristian sound of cold analogue synths beauty. Fans of dark ambient and devoted fans of Kristian this is for you. IMHO: 7 of 10 - NO SPAM MOVEMENT - (only music content) Alien np.
