You shouldn't listen to 'Natural Rythms', you have to see it, that's what makes it so brilliant! In the video, every sample comes with the images of the object creating that sound. There is eg a monkey that jumps on a stone, which gives some sort of clicky bass sound. The video mixes all those images, synchronized with the sound. It's just beautiful. ------------------------------------------------------- M a t h i a s V e r r a e s ET.phone.home@ThePentagon.com To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And, at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between, plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing." This is truth, to me. -------------------------------------------------------

i don't give two shits about monkeys clicking stones. i'm all for experimentation and if that's what coldcut wants to do, let them. i find the entire natural rythym idea very, very lame. the video is gad-awful stupid, and the music is basic and pointless. dull, dull. BUT, you say, THE MONKEYS CLICKING ON STONES IN PERFECTLY IN SYNCH WITH THE BASS DRUM. pah. i think i'd rather watch VH1's 80s music weekend. - wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu " when our worlds they fall apart when the walls come tumbling in though we may deserve it it will be worth it."

Blimey, you really just don't get it do you? The whole damn vid is very clever. Agreed, as a sound experience only, it is not amazing, but the point of this vid is the integrated synching of the aural and visual components. This is extremely rare in music video, even in the arena of techno-related videos. It is extrmely satisfying to watch. I sat in a tent at last Summer's Big Chill festival with maybe 4 or 500 people who sat and watched in awe as this video was played. The cheer that was raised at the end was testament to the innovation and downright coolness of this video. perhaps you're seeing something i'm not. i guess i just don't find video/audio synchronization THAT big of a deal, especially when both are as uninteresting as in this case. shrug. np: biosphere 'substrata' - wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu " when our worlds they fall apart when the walls come tumbling in though we may deserve it it will be worth it."

Right, what's this then? Can't believe all the Coldcut bashing on the list! It's downright evil. Coldcut has covered tremendous stylistic territory, functioned as pioneer of samplemania, and now brings us the Ninja/Ntone psychoacidjazzfunk brigade. It's not just Coldcut, it's the many aliases thereof. Listen to "What's that Nois/ze" or the various pseudonymic recent releases. The boys deserve respect even if the a given specific style is not to one's liking. Just two rubles from the rubble... 3 P.S. Besides, Coldcut sampled Ofra Haza first. On a related note, is it true that one of the Colourbox / MARRS cats died a few years back?

this video clips/samples business: i saw a group called eboman a year or so back doing exactly this live. All the samples they were using had associated pieces of film which were projected behind them. i remember it was quite interesting to see a flash of film towards the end of a track from a longer sequence at the beginning showing you how they were producing some exciting sounds by mashing up earlier more lengthly samples. i also don't recall the group being particularly good though... mike

If you like this sort of thing then you should definitely see Eboman live....his whole set consists of this aural/visual synchronisation with lots of humour injected too :) -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/
