Well I don't. I don't really listen to IDM to learn (or whatever) anything
thru lyrics. Mostly, I don't listen to music that way at all. To me, vocals
are just like other sounds. I don't care if the sounds in the music (that
includes vocals) contain some sort of information though I definitely prefer
that they don't. To me, the voice is just another instrument with very
specific timbres. I think it can be quite ok with bits of voices (sung or not)
placed in the right context, but I *very* seldom find more profound *lyrics*
appropriate in IDM. Well chosen cut-ups combine a good timbre with a *little*
bit of verbal information. I think they are justified. It is very easy to make
a bad cut-up ruin a song though, so it really calls for some consideration
before throwing a cut-up in on top of a song...
