Caveat - when I first got mine, it was broken, and I had to send it
back. And, right now, about a year later, it's broken again - the
battery/power subsystem is messed up, and I had to send it in for
repair. On the plus side, their support personnel are awesomely
helpful. And when it works (99% of the time I've had it) it's teh
roxx0rz.
Also, their soon-to-be-released 442 device will have:
PVR functionality.
mpeg, WMV, Divx, mp3, oog, etc. etc.
analog video and audio inputs and outputs for easy connection to home
video equipment
3.6 inch screen for watching video on the go.
open source everything.
dual core CPU!!
Looks awesome, but expensive.

yeah, you could easily plug a mic into the the line in on it. of course
it's
only an 1/8th inch plug, so you'd need an adapter or some such thing,

it's definitely mic friendly. you should go check out the iriver
website:

sure
about the riokarma's, but, i -think- there is an extra peripheral you
can
buy for ipods to record. but nothing built in.
