I know people must be tired of talking about this subject, but i'd just like to say how my opinion has drastically changed over the past couple weeks. I actally hadn't even used Napster until after they were un-shutdown. Having never used it before, my thoughts were that Metallica was being ridiculous about it because there is no way that they'd loose a substantial amount of money because of it. I saw the whole thing as a way for people to buy more CD's because they could easily hear more music that they otherwise would never hear, and then be convinced into buying a full length album. Well after I jumped on the bandwagon, I found that my initial thoughts were so wrong. I am the biggest addict of Macster (napster's bastard stepchild), but at the same time couldn't agree more with Metallica over why it should be shut down. I love the thing to death and would absolutely hate to see it disappear, but if I were a big time band, I really would start to worry. I came to a realization the other day that I may never have to buy a Cd again. In the past few weeks, I must have "stolen" hundreds of dollars worth of music that i otherwise wouldn't ever have bought on my own. I am an avid music collector, but I've tried to stay away from certain groups because I was afraid that I would then have to go collect every piece of music that the artist has ever produced. Now I've done that and couldn't be happier. I've bleeped blopped and blooped until the sun came down every night, and now I have a deep collection that is being added to every day. All of those old pieces of vinyl that people put out as first releases that I thought I would never ever find....I finally have! It's absolutely incredible. Of course there's certain artists that I would have to buy the CD just because I want the great packaging, artwork, or info, but for the most part I have everything I could possibly need with the help of a free program, a full time job, and an unrelentless T1 line. So all in all, trying to shut down Napster was certainly not blatant greed. The greed is now mine. It's a contradiction because I can't live without it, but I am fully aware of how dangerous it is to the music industry. TekDz9er
