So about the R.I.A.A: on the topic of copyright control - what if we put music in the Public Domain a lot sooner - for instance - say - after 6 months instead of ?50? years. Or after 3 months? Or a month? Am I on crack? Yeah so "your property" devalues quicker - but couldn't it also make your property cash in better, faster, stronger? This is a cracked idea after all ... you can't control people's minds. If I (crackhead extraordinaire) want to rip off, say, "54 Cymru Beats" (great fookin song, nod to the UK) - I could just as well try to record some frickin hyper breaks, smash a mic run thru a vocoder against a Defender speaker a bunch of times and call it my new Toyota commercial, right? I guess that's getting hella reductionist but hopefully y'all understand me meaning. Hell, modern popular music (ok even IDM, various genres/sub-genres) already lean toward derivation a few years after some previous initial release anyway (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, or a dis on any of the aforementioned or alluded to artists, that's just normal evolution in music.) d --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

No. The current business model for the music industry largely circulates around the copyright ownership. The longer a record label can maintain ownership of a piece of music, the more money they make. For example, the value of masters that belong to very successful artists/bands like the beatles or rolling stones have increased in value over the years. People still buy beatles albums. Also, when a company wants to license music for a TV or radio commercial the owner of the music has the opportunity to make more money. In response to all of the copyright games the RIAA an US government want to play, I have created an business model for my record label that replies with a big fat middle finger in the face of money hungry scum. I have created an online archive of mp3 that are available for free download. Go ahead and download the trax, copy them and pass them on to as many people as want. Why not? It's easier to freely distribute music than try and control digital distribution. Listeners that dig the music can pick ten of their favorite trax and I'll dj them into a continuous mix and mail them listener a copy of the mix. So you pay for a custom dj mix, but you don't have to pay for the original trax. peace Gerald Wenzel Application Specific - music is necessary http://apspec.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
