So about the R.I.A.A: on the topic of copyright control - what if we put
music in the Public Domain a lot sooner - for instance - say - after 6
months instead of ?50? years. Or after 3 months? Or a month? Am I on crack?
Yeah so "your property" devalues quicker - but couldn't it also make your
property cash in better, faster, stronger? This is a cracked idea after all
... you can't control people's minds. If I (crackhead extraordinaire) want
to rip off, say, "54 Cymru Beats" (great fookin song, nod to the UK) - I
could just as well try to record some frickin hyper breaks, smash a mic run
thru a vocoder against a Defender speaker a bunch of times and call it my
new Toyota commercial, right? I guess that's getting hella reductionist but
hopefully y'all understand me meaning.
Hell, modern popular music (ok even IDM, various genres/sub-genres) already
lean toward derivation a few years after some previous initial release
anyway (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, or a dis on any of the
aforementioned or alluded to artists, that's just normal evolution in
music.)
