Here are my fave 6: Both Photek Albums: "Modus Operandi" "Form & Function" IMO, the best jungle producer i've ran across, but it's weirder stuff, especially MO. WE(tm) "Square Root of Negative One": just got this, so take this recommendation with a grain of salt. They've gotten rid of much of the "illbience" for a more regular jungle sound, without sounding like regular jungle. Lamb "Lamb": Really interesting, off-beat and unique jungle production with great female vocals over it Kemistry & Storm "DJ Kicks": IMO, a really good mix of hard jungle for dancing. Ben Neill "Goldbug": Nice production, and he does a good job of filling the middles with his miles-like mutantrumpet.

His remix of D*Note's "Criminal Justice": Sounds a lot like tracks from BST, but with Ragga-style vocals over it about the Criminal Justice Bill. Speaking of, does anyone know of any web page with a description of the criminal justice bill and its history? I know it was an anti-rave law in England, and that Ae's AntiEP has statements against it on the sticker, and the above D*Note reference. Or if someone could just send me some info, i'd appreciate. Thanks. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu University of Idaho / Moscow / ID / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY

Yeah, Ben Neill is another one of those dudes who takes the similar underpinnings of jazz and electronic music in directions it was never meant to go. It's like hey, this track is kind of cool- and then he comes in with his damn trumpet again. ARRGH. I never liked the trumpet anyway- It's BUGLE 2.0- just as cloying and nasal as the original regimental wake up call, now with three buttons for greater melodic range! Tom

What directions are jazz and electronic music "meant to go"? Seems like Miles Davis might be working in a similar vein if he were still with us. 3

according to a huge amount of people on this list, it was never meant to go beyond the sound of "amber". good thing MAS is keeping it real!!!! :) chris.

hmm. not sure that someone who "never liked the trumpet" is in much of a position to say what direction jazz was "meant to go." after all, if louis armstrong hadn't put glorified bugle to mouth 3/4 of a century ago, jazz quite possibly would have never gone anywhere. not to mention the non-cloying, un-nasal music miles davis, dizzy gillespie, lee morgan, don cherry, jon hassell, wadada leo smith, kenny wheeler, dave douglas and a host of others have created on the instrument since then. and oh yeah -- i think ben neill is swell. jeff

That's awesome dude, I guess since all those guys are officially geniuses the trumpet must be a great instrument. I'll change my taste in sonics right away. BTW, I never said anything about the places jazz was meant to go, that's for jazz musicians to decide for themselves. But quite frankly just because you can improvise blues on top of something (which you can with just about all techno) doesn't make it a good idea- kind of like sticking your head in the toilet because it fits. That's all I'm saying- I hate noodles with my techno. Tom

Huh?! Sorry, but you seriously need to listen to some Miles Davis. Especially anything from his 1965-68 quintet (E.S.P., Miles Smiles, Sorcerer, Nefertiti). Any of this should transcend all of your prejudices against the trumpet. Miles' beautiful tone on these cd's is definitely not "cloying and nasal" as you put it.
