was just wondering how much royalties does one pay for sampling rights... (if you are honest enough to give credit for the samples and get permission to use them) ... and WHO gets the royalties from this? the label (because they basically own the artists' material on the label) or the artist (because he/she/they are the creative originators) ??? is it a "set price" (like mechanical royalties are1 to 2 cents per air play) the reason I ask, is because I wonder how much money SKAM and/or FREEFORM got from U2 for the sample they used in "Discotheque" (just something that popped into my head at 3:18 AM)

I didn't notice any Skam like samples on "Discotheque"? What part or time do the samples appear on discotheque? Rusty

I couldn't tell ya, as I don't buy U2 stuff... just saw the CDsingles (import ones) at a local shop, and checked it out just to see how silly it was, and inside it said that they sampled the FREEFORM 12" on Skam, and gave credit to Pyke. Not sure if this is in the original mix or the remixes (by Howie B) or in both the original & remixes... but it's printed in the CD... so I was just wondering if anyone knew about this and knew how much SKAM or FREEFORM got from a 'millions-of-dollars" superband.
