a question on Warpnet: i've been having trouble getting the page to run on my mac--the bleeper seems to be causing problems, every time i pass my cursor over the graphic, i get a java error. so i can't get beyond the first page to the real home page. mac users, any suggestions? do i need to turn on/off an extension? thanks, phil philiphughsherburne brownudeptofenglish *providenceriusofa* 401 .453 .4116 -->our ears are now in excellent condition --john cage

Hi Folks, Just had an trawl 'round Warpnet and its very pretty 'n all but all the questions I had remain unanswered. Can anyone out there help? 1. When was Clonk's Coming released? 2. Did anything other than Pulp get released on 'Gift'? 3. Why Sabresonic II? I know that Weatherall was unhappy with Sabresonic saying that on reflection its boring (I agree). I presume that Sabresonic II is an attempt to rectify that. Is this the case? If so has Sabresonic been deleted? 4. How many Jimi Tenor 7"s are there and how many 10"s of 'Outa Space' will be available? And a couple of tangentially Warp related questions to finish: 5. NME reckoned that Global Goon had sold more copies than the 'Richard D. James LP'. Can this be the case or is it the usual inkie bullshit? 6. Anyone got tapes of Aphex or support from the recent tour they would like to trade for tapes of something else? I have a fairly anal collection of Aphex/Warp/RePHLeX stuff... The new Warpnet has its good points, for example the inclusion of videos and some funny and informative stuff in the file section but I still think that it is a triumph of style over content. No release dates, artist credits or track times in the discography. No way of printing off a discography. No info on the numbers available of the recent limited editions (this matters 'cos if its only a few I'll order something, if its over a thousand I'm confident I'll be able to pick it up in town). Its no use to the trainspotter. Its too specific and too full of in jokes to be of casual interest. Who is it for? Grumpy Rob ;-) ----------------------------------------------------------- 'Drum Machines - hell, you just programme the motherfucker, press a button, you got that "bim, bam, boom" twenty four hours a day if you want it. yes. 'V' and 'Various Vegetables'. warp-net is a warp site not a gift site. I believe their is a gift dicog floating around somewhere, why don't you find it.

i think it's unlikely, but who knows and more to the point cares. sales don't affect the music on a record. which is not to say the reverse is not true.

erm, there is no content there yet so it is not surprising.

probably the hundreds of people who say they like it. content is something I will be building up over the next few months/years these things don't happen overnight I probably devote <2% of my work time to it at the moment. things to expect over the next few months are a working live chat by end of next week, lot's of sound, news, artist contributions, a threaded message post so it will be useful etc etc. we are planning to have full details and samples of each new release up on the site a week before the release date. g.

besides, you put up the cover, the title, a sound sample, release dates, artist credits, tracktimes, full discography why would you bother buying the record in the first fucking place? you wanna be that anal, go for it, but expecting anyone to do the same is completely ridiculous... mb

Hi Greg (and Folks), Thanks for the info and the questions answered.

Don't get prickly! Gift was part of Warp so its not unreasonable to try the Warp site first as a source of info. The second most reliable source of info on Warp (and related) is the IDM list. I was only asking.
quoted 4 lines and how many 10"s of 'Outa> >and how many 10"s of 'Outa > >Space' will be available? > > as many as you want.
I'll only want one. Is it *not* a limited edition then?
quoted 7 lines 5. NME reckoned that Global Goon had sold more copies than the> >5. NME reckoned that Global Goon had sold more copies than the > >'Richard D. James LP'. I couldn't give a shit about how many records by these artists get sold. It has no bearing on whether I like them or not. I just thought it was a peculiar thing for NME to have claimed. Again, who else am I going to ask but the IDM list (with its official representatives of both labels as subscribers)? I'm just idly curious... <Warpnet moans>

Ha, ha! This had me chuckling. Have you seen Fresh's discogs?!? There are *many* people on this list anal enough to be concerned about these things! Me for one! I admit that track times might be taking it a little far but asking for artist credits and release dates isn't unreasonable given the amount of interest shown in the label by this list. The other day a friend of mine played me a promo of the Symplectic single. I liked it and wondered when it came out, who was behind it, whether they'd done anything else under different names. Nothing too anal. I looked it up on Warpnet, clicked on the little picture of the sleeve and got... a big picture of the sleeve with a tracklisting I'd already seen. Hmmm.
quoted 3 lines No way of printing off a discography.> >No way of printing off a discography. > > we are going to produce an ascii version.
Cheers. That will be much appreciated.
quoted 6 lines No info on the> >No info on the > >numbers available of the recent limited editions (this matters 'cos > >if its only a few I'll order something, if its over a thousand > > nothings ever less than a thousand apart from maybe that one sided > sabres 7"
Yeah, but you just said that there were only 500 Jimi Tenor 7" singles *in the UK* which effectively means to me only 500 available, despite knowing that there are a thousand in total. This is the sort of occasion where I would like to know in order to secure a copy. By the way, any list members in my area (Leeds, UK): Way Ahead had a couple of copies of it left yesterday.
quoted 9 lines Its no use to the> >Its no use to the > >trainspotter. Its too specific > > ???? > > >and too full of in jokes to be of > >casual interest. > > ????
What I meant was that its not specific and detailed enough to satiate the trainspotter (see Fresh's discogs for an example of how to do that) but its still full of Designers Republic/Warp in-jokes. Its like walking into Eastern Bloc: obviously cool and well designed but unless you know the guys behind the counter its not going to make much sense and going to feel excluding.
quoted 3 lines Who is it for?> >Who is it for? > > probably the hundreds of people who say they like it.
Fair enough. To torture the metaphor a little more: Eastern Bloc sells a lot of records. It's certainly refereshingly different to other officially sanctioned commercial sites: its good.

All sounds great. I'll be visiting frequently I'm sure. I *do* appreciate the work that goes into these things. not really. it was run by the same guys that run warp, that's about all. the two labels have nothing else in common musically or otherwise.

gift is nonfunctional. we do not glory (ho ho) in the past.

not any more. this is the danger of releasing info early. things change. and then people start to wonder why... :)

indeed. NME claims many peculiar things.

what you mean my squarepusher discography and christopher miller's aphex discography?

yes brilliant. likesay we will be adding relevant information onto the discography as and when we have the time. in a bizarre way my original warp discography started way back in '92/'93 whenever it was is the reason I work for warp now so I will not forget it but I have other priorities now (fortunately).

*sharpintakeofbreath* what you mean you don't advance order every warp release? :) yes this is an area I have being trying to address for some time unfortunately the limitedness of releases is not always easy to ascertain (see above).

I am well capable of satiating a trainspotter *koff koff* (bizarrely - chatting with CiM today we decided that although we though we were pretty anal in our day we have nothing on people like Gonzi (not to encourage you mate at all) nowadays) but the majority of people (which is not the IDM list) do not give a shit about track times so trainspotters have to wait.

sorry I don't get the 'in-joke' bit. DR/Warp have never really been in to in jokes. if anything we're out-joke people. is the blech CD cover an in-joke?
quoted 4 lines Its>Its >like walking into Eastern Bloc: obviously cool and well designed but >unless you know the guys behind the counter its not going to make >much sense and going to feel excluding.
a bit like the warp shop used to be then ;) this is definitely not what warp is about we all hate that sort of thing. we are reasonable people. g.
