I know that this is not strictly IDM, but in some way I feel that "69 days of static" do have some influences at least. What I'm asking is for is some recommendations of similar artists. I really like this mixture of guitar-post-rock and electronic beats and sounds. It just fits together by the mood both type of music tend to have. I haven't heard these guys, but I've heard OF them plenty. No idea who else is inhabiting this hybrid musical space. There seems to be an array of review-type text around that essays comparison, but it's all along the lines of {X} Meets {Y} over at {Z's} place. For example: "Something of a Tool/King Crimson/Mogwai meets Roni Size set of heartwarming post-rock epics" "...it's The Orb meets Radiohead but taken a step further on up." "...Mogwai-rivalling post-rock stargazing augmented by clicks and blips straight out of Squarepusher's laptop" [all taken from <http://www.monotremerecords.com/65dos/65dos.html>] So it seems that 65daysofstatic are comparable to others, but noone is exactly comparable to them. alan --On 03 April 2006 14:48 -0400 cutups <cutup@andythepooh.com> wrote:

Thinking about this "What else is like...?" question, and having now heard some soundclips, what about Accelera Deck's 1998 album 'Narcotic Beats'? From what I recall of that album, it was probably trying to do something similar to The 'daysies (isn't that what they're being endearingly referred to as now?) some time ago. Not sure how it would stand up now... probably lacking in the 'glitch' element too... Also the main source sound (guitar) is more akin to a Seefeelesque post-Shieldsian blur, whilst The 'Statics seem to be drawing from the Usual Post-rock Suspects. The beats are also quite downplayed (though jungletastically hyperactive) in being far back in the mix. Oh, and none of that piano plonking. Which is nice... So I guess what I'm saying is: someone's tried something like this mixture before but probably wouldn't sound as sharp as the 2006 model being peddled The 65-ers. Might still be worth checking a copy of 'Narcotic Beats' if you could get it from somewhere... alan --On 03 April 2006 14:48 -0400 cutups <cutup@andythepooh.com> wrote:
