Thinking about this "What else is like...?" question, and having now heard
some soundclips, what about Accelera Deck's 1998 album 'Narcotic Beats'?
From what I recall of that album, it was probably trying to do something
similar to The 'daysies (isn't that what they're being endearingly referred
to as now?) some time ago. Not sure how it would stand up now... probably
lacking in the 'glitch' element too...
Also the main source sound (guitar) is more akin to a Seefeelesque
post-Shieldsian blur, whilst The 'Statics seem to be drawing from the Usual
Post-rock Suspects. The beats are also quite downplayed (though
jungletastically hyperactive) in being far back in the mix. Oh, and none of
that piano plonking. Which is nice...
So I guess what I'm saying is: someone's tried something like this mixture
before but probably wouldn't sound as sharp as the 2006 model being peddled
The 65-ers.
Might still be worth checking a copy of 'Narcotic Beats' if you could get
it from somewhere...
